What's the general opinion of Shumpert's potential, assuming he returns from his injury at full strength?

No.

He is a future Hall of Famer, like Channing Frye and Mardy Collins.

has big potential. I mean in his rookie year without training camp he already became the bets perimeter defender in the league. he just needs to work on his outside shot and decisions with the ball. I hope to god the injury doesnt affect him too long because we need him

He's already one of the best perimeter defenders in the league but scoring 9 ppg on 40% shooting isn't all-star material.
Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

He's also a 21 year old rookie. I'm talking all-star material starting 3-5 years from now. I don't think anyone expected him to be all-star material this season. Did you?

If Shumpert develops a reliable jumper and his knee injury hasn't robbed him of his explosiveness, he could end up being our best SG since Houston and an all-star in a few years. I doubt he will ever have Allan's shooting touch, but Houston never was a lockdown defender like Shump is either.

In a way he reminds me of Spree. Not as good at attacking the rim (Sprewell was something else), but Shump has that same killer instinct IMO. Its something that's been lacking on this team for the most part since Kurt Thomas left.

I'd be surprised if he didn't make it to at least one all-star game in his career.

Defensively, he is at such a high level and offensively, there is no reason why he shouldn't improve enough to where he is above average on that end as well.

I envision Shumpert to be an All star defender (might even win a Def POY)

his stats will probably be like: 14ppg, 6rebs, 2stl

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

That's exactly what i envision. Igoudala-type numbers who's an all-star when the team warrants having multiple all-stars.

I think it depends how this injury affects him.. Everyone is different so who knows how he'll come back. If he didn't tear his ACL I'd say he'd definitely be an all-star at some point. Hopefully it doesn't rob him of too much athleticism

Drinking from the Knicks fan coolaid here but...

I see a lot of potential in Iman.

He has shown excellent ability to defend both guard positions.

He has enough ball control and speed to split double teams and get by his man in one on one matchups.

He can finish well at the rim and make the pass of the shot is not available.

I didn't see much of a problem with his shot selection. Being on a team where he is not the 1st, 2nd or 3rd option should help curtail this issue.

His jumpshot can be improved but that applies to most players. He shot better than I expected.

Go Iman, Go!

Had enough Melo?

Whats the timeline for recovery? a year?

His sophmore year won't show us much.

All a plus if he can return to form.

Once they're able to play again, around 6 months, it usually takes a player about one full season to get back to where they were before the injury. In the NBA, the two players I can think of are Al Jefferson and Kendrick Perkins, both of whom had a down year after surgery but were much better the next year. I can remember more examples from the NFL, Osi and Tom Brady both needed that extra season to get back; Carson Palmer really never recovered from his injury; and Steve Smith came back too soon this past season and probably setback his recovery even longer.

He lacks a good handle and a quick first step. Plus he doesn't finish well around the rim and isn't a good 3 pt shooter. On top of that he has major knee problems. On the plus side, he is a great overall athlete and outstanding perimeter defender with some of the quickest hands in the league. He also has a very nice reliable mid range shot that he just doesnt use often enough. He has major potential and could definitely be an all star. I would compare him to Andre Iguodala.

He has a lot of offensive potential. Part of the reason his FG% was bad was because early in the season he really had a very unselective trigger finger. I think he got better as time went on. I worry about what the knee injury means, but I think he has great strength, is fearless and he has a developing jumper.

I loved him from day 1 of the draft.
He has heart, confidence, and worth ethic, to go with his physical skills.
That last injury, is a big blow to him, it will at the very least set him back.
With that said, I would say Kawaii Leanord and Iman has the potential to be the 2 best defenders in the draft class.
Laeanord has the better players, coaching staff, and without the distraction of NY, I think he will be the better defender with versatility.
If Iman never got hurt, it would be a nice race, even though Iman is preferred defending the PG, SG, and IS NOT a lockdown at SF, although he can guard it at times.
Leanord can probably defend 3-4 positions, with his length, quickness, and size to go with his smarts.

Sky is the limit for this kid, but with that injury it is just too hard to determine.
If he never got hurt and was able to develop his game, I can see improvements possibly like how Westbrook and Derrick Rose did, in their 2nd and 3rd years.
I hope he recovers and wish him the best, regardless if he will be a 6th man role, elite defender, or future all star.
He is still young, he might bounce back, but its not 100%.

Losing out on the ability to further develop your game, for 1 year, and then the whole Physical Therapy treatment, at the very least will stunt his growth for 1-2 years

VS

if he never got hurt that bad.....

He's someone who I would never trade because his upside is above his "value" as a trade piece-
I believe a healthy franchise invests in youth, talent, and two way playing- D and O- and Shumpert has shown me more than enough in both sides in key games- He's also shown me lack of fear- Crucial to winning-
Is he an All Star in the future? Well, if he is, it's because of everything he belives in coming true- which will require healthy seasons- if he finds consistent health he is such a perfect long term fit as the SG next to Lin Melo Amear and Tyson- We don't have to over examine chemistry with those guys- we need health and time- if those five are healthy and have time together it works- Look at how we played under Woodson before Lin went down (After rode him like I'll have another)
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.
