Landry 'would love to' stay with Knicks

Free-agent-to-be Landry Fields made it clear late Wednesday night that he'd 'love to' stay with the Knicks.

"I think this organization is on the way up and I would love to be a part of it," he said after the Knicks' Game 5 loss.

The question is: do the Knicks feel the same way?

Fields will be an unrestricted free agent this summer and the Knicks hold his Early Bird rights, so they will be able to match any offer another team makes to the second-year shooting guard.

But, after Fields' up-and-down season, it's unclear how far the Knicks will go to retain him.

The 23-year-old has been largely inconsistent since Carmelo Anthony came to town. His scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage were down this season. He hit 39 percent of his three-point attempts last year, compared to just 25 percent this year, though his attempts were cut in half.

The Knicks face an interesting situation at shooting guard this summer. J.R. Smith likely won't be back and they'll probably be without Iman Shumpert for at least the first month of the season as he tries to rehab his torn left ACL.

So they'll need someone to fill the void.

Fields hopes the Knicks stick with him.

"I don’t know what the organization thinks about everybody, I guess that will be all figured out this offseason," said Fields, who added that he 'hopes' to stay. "I'l leave it in God's hands."

This statement is a complete contradiction. Unrestricted FA means that your current team can't do anything to make you stay.

Fields is a restricted free agent. Reporters these days are horrible.

I also don't understand you title. If Fields is a UFA then he's a bum and get rid of him, but if he's a RFA them lets sign him?????

Let's give him the max. I would easily take Landry Fields over Tim Duncan.

I am Bippity. Bippity is also me.

if he'll come back for like $1 million a year, i don't think there will be better alternatives. he's a frustrating player, but we all know he can play better than he did this year. just needs to get his confidence back.

As much as he obviously stinks, there is the whole glue argument - which I never believed in. However, what is peculiar is that he leads the Knicks (by far) in +/-

So, I have no idea what the hell he is worth

He is worth a lot more than his current market value.

I think he played much better in this year's playoffs compared to last year's playoffs.

His biggest weakness, and this is very obvious, is his jumpshot. For now, I still believe he can fix that.

Not only do I want him back on the team next year but I want him in the starting lineup.

Had enough Melo?

If I hear about this kids confidence one more time lol. This isn't college or high school. You are a grown man being paid millions to play basketball. Get your ass in the gym...thats where confidence comes from, REPETITION IN THE GYM

Thank you. Him and TD. Cut the F**kin' comedy acts and dedicate yourself to filling out your game. And TD calls himself a gym rat. I don't see it.

I'm not sure he can fix it. Is it theoretically fixable - yes, anything theoretically is.

But his jump shot has gotten worse, not better, during his time in the league.

That does not bode well.

I can't believe a guy as smart as Fields couldn't figure out that his shooting needed work more than anything else. I like that he was going strong to the rim this season but that's no excuse not to stay in the gym until you have your shot down.

Yale smart!

My point is that brains have nothing to do with shooting or else all really smart people would all be really great shooters and dummys would suck at shooting

Sometimes being really smart can make you over think your shooting - I suffer from this myself

At the least he is a S&T. We are not likely to let him walk for nothing unless he gets a crazy offer (from NJ LOL)

I see your point and I agree. My criticism is more about his work habits. I can only go by what I see on the floor and I see someone who doesn't look like they work enough on their shooting in their spare time. My point was that he should have been smart enough to put two and two together and put in more time in the gym, not that he should be a good shooter by virtue of being smart.

If he doesnt get any crazy deals you keep him. no one is going to make him a huge offer anyway.

Sadly we have to keep him since his replacement would likely be worse.

Fields versus other teams bench is good. Fields versus other teams starters is bad.
