![]() One of our first starphucques back when starphucquing wasn't such a hot button topic.
Was there ever a more overpaid back court than Childs/Houston? |

![]() I always like Chris Childs, but I don't think he was well liked among Knick fans. We signed him after he had that good statistical year with the Nets, and we had to cut Derrick Harper to do so- he then broke his leg or something, and didn't play until about half way into the season, and because of the lack of training camp etc, he didn't play well. People started hating on him pretty quickly.
The problem was he was better with a running team, and with Ewing that wasn't going to happen. But I always remember him making clutch shots (usually 3 pointers), and he was tough dude- he carried us offensively against the Heat in game 7 against the Heat in 2000 (I think- it was the one where everyone else was stinking up the joint in the second half, and Childs had like 19 points). I think he and Oakley killed us in the playoffs one year when they were with the Raptors (2001?). Unfortunately he suddenly put on so much weight in one offseason, while with the Raptors, he simply couldn't play- couldn't even run up and down the court in training camp. I think huge weight gain is usually a sign of bigger problems, so I always wondered if his alcoholism had resurfaced. |

![]() A bit about his Raptors legacy:
Chris Childs joined the Raptors in 2001, just in time for the team’s most successful year in franchise history. That year, he averaged 4.5ppg and 4.6apg; and was a key player off the bench for the Raptors in both the 1st round series against the Knicks, and the legendary 2nd round series against the 76ers. http://raptorswatch.com/2011/08/04/the-top-30-raptors-of-all-time-28-chris-childs/ And this: n 2001, Childs was traded to the Toronto Raptors for Mark Jackson and Muggsy Bogues, with whom he played for one-and-a-half seasons before rejoining the Nets in 2002. However, his second tenure with the Nets was disastrous, as he was suspended by the team for being overweight and out-of-shape at the beginning of the season. After twelve games in which he averaged just 1.3 points, he was finally waived and saw his NBA career come to a close. http://hoopedia.nba.com/index.php?title=Chris_Childs And more on his final days with the Nets in 2002: The 34-year-old Childs, making his second go-round with the Nets in what he acknowledges is the twilight of his career, reported to training camp about 20 pounds overweight and with tendinitis in his right Achilles' tendon. His poor physical condition led Thorn to suspend Childs until he was ready to play. He was eventually bought out after a series of run ins with the coach. |

Thanks for your help, but I can use Google and Wikipedia too. I was wondering more about where he is/what he is up to NOW(not back in 2002.) Just out of curiousty- what is he doing-is he coaching, maybe broadcasting, is he just kicking back at the country club living the rich guy life, OR is he one of those athletes who has unfortunately blown threw his millions and has to work the 9-5 like the rest of us? |

Well the point of those articles is he went off the rails in 2002, and has never been heard of since- doesn't bode well and I doubt he's doing anything bball related |
