*ominous clouds* *thunder clap* RT @GaryParrishCBS: Isiah Thomas has been removed as coach at FIU, a source told http://CBSSports.com.

4m Ken Berger ‏ @KBergCBS
If nothing else, Thomas no longer impeded from consulting for #NBA team now that he's no longer employed as college coach.

Ken Berger ‏ @KBergCBS
Let the speculation begin about Isiah Thomas coming back to run the #Knicks. Florida International says Isiah relieved of coaching duties.

Goodbye Zeke.

Florida International University announced on Friday that it has parted ways with coach Isiah Thomas, Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer and former executive of the New York Knicks.

The university released the following statement.

FIU Executive Director of Sports and Entertainment Pete Garcia announced today that Isiah Thomas has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the FIU men's basketball program.

“We want to thank Isiah Thomas for his three years here at FIU,” Garcia said. “However, we have decided to take the program in a different direction.”

A national search for the Panthers' next head basketball coach will begin immediately.

Thomas, 50, was hired by FIU in 2009. He posted a career record of 26-65 during his three seasons at FIU.

He spent a 13-year NBA career with the Detroit Pistons. The 12-time All-Star point guard posted career averages of 19.2 points, 9.3 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game.

Thomas was hired by the Knicks in 2003 as president of basketball operations. He also served as coach during the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008

Said to be a close friend of Knicks owner James Dolan, Thomas has been linked to the Knicks in rumors for years. In 2010, Thomas announced he was going to serve as a consultant for the Knicks while retaining his job as coach of FIU. He quickly backtracked. During his tenure in New York, Thomas was hit with a sexual harassment lawsuit and oversaw a basketball operations department that was fined by the NBA for conducting illegal workouts with college prospects.

Frank Isola ‏ @FisolaNYDN
And Isiah's Chicago pal, Knicks assistant Darrell Walker, was his head coach in Toronto. But again, Isiah has nothing to do with Knicks

10m Frank Isola ‏ @FisolaNYDN
Isiah's not involved with Knicks even though his college pals, Woodson & Grunwald, are coach and GM respectively.

Isiah Thomas is apparently out at FIU, thus setting the stage for him to take the consultant job James Dolan gave him 2 summers ago

I'm so glad to have this epic failure of a human being officially part of our organization again.

for the record, i hate isiah... though i kind of like woodson and grunwald. so i guess my response is partially a shrug (isiah has clearly already been influencing the organization and never stopped)... the other part of my reaction is:

ahem...

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

STILL. the timing of this bit of news about Donnie is ridiculous:

Ken Berger ‏ @KBergCBS
#Knicks have given Donnie Walsh permission to speak with teams about exec jobs, @CBSSports has learned. #NBA http://goo.gl/Qg0wy

NEW YORK -- Donnie Walsh, who rebuilt the Knicks' roster and battered image before stepping aside as team president last June, has received permission from the organization to speak with other teams about an executive position, his agent told CBSSports.com Friday.

Walsh, 71, has a contract with the Knicks in his role as consultant that expires June 30. The widely respected executive wants to work again and is expected to begin exploring opportunities immediately.

"Donnie's very interested in continuing to work on a full-time basis," Walsh's agent, Steve Kauffman, told CBSSports.com.

The Portland Trail Blazers already have begun yet another GM search, and it is believed that Walsh will explore that situation first since the job is known to be open. If Larry Bird steps down as Pacers president after the season, there are indications that owner Herb Simon -- a longtime friend and proponent of Walsh -- would strongly consider a reunion.

Sad and pathetic.

Dolan is a disgrace.

Donnie was always healthy. He was healthy enough to stay on as GM. The Knicks played it off as him retiring or taking a break because of helth concerns but the reality is Donnie was forced out and this confirms it.

yep.

well, he basically stepped down because of the melo trade. i thought we all knew that.

knicks got a little good again, dolan got excited and took over the team, traded all the chips for melo and basically forced donnie and mda out the door. not a great way to do business. but tis the dolan way.

PR duties?

Thats like "mike tyson judge a beauty contest"....and he goes to jail for rape.

Or Lets Get Vin Baker to handle "liquer and Beer Sales"........

Eddy to be the Dietition?

Or let Willie Nelson do my Taxes?

It makes more sense for Isiah to be the GM than this stupidity exist.

This man should not have anything publicly to do with this team.

if Isiah holds ANY role in the Knicks organization, not only will I stop rooting for them, I will hate them like I hate war. The world would be a better place with both of them gone from the Earth

Terrific. I just threw up a little in my mouth.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
