Unsolicited opinions via social media haven’t helped the New Jersey Nets’ cause in keeping Deron Williams. Neither does the unofficial title of team “assistant GM.” And fans can forget about playing the “loyalty” card, for it won’t stop Williams from hitting the free-agent market this summer.

“People get traded all the time,” Williams told Yahoo! Sports. “They don’t get backlash as an organization. If [players] leave, we are not loyal, we are ungrateful. People say stuff to me on Twitter. They already think I’m gone. They are out there bashing me, saying to me I’m a traitor.

“I didn’t ask to be here. I got traded. I didn’t come here being a free agent. This is the first time that I’m a free agent in my career.”

Sounds like Williams is ready for free agency, although he hasn’t ruled out the Nets.

He “probably” would have re-signed if the Nets had dealt for the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard before the March 15 trade deadline. While Howard was intrigued by New Jersey, the NBA’s most dominant center ultimately opted in to his contract for at minimum next season with the Magic.

“It’s a decision he made for himself,” Williams said. “I really have no comment on it. He did what was best for him. I respect that. I’m still friends with him.

“Oh yeah, it definitely would have changed things. I’ve already made it known that if he would have come I probably would have stayed.

Sounds like he is gone!

Knicks could offer the Nets a package of Amare and Lin for Deron Williams.

Deron Williams gets his 5th year in a S&T. Amare and Lin get to stay in NYC. Knicks get a PG. Nets get a PF and PG and still have Lopez as trade bait. Everyone wins.

Right. A PF on his way down, and an injured PG with less than half a season in the tank. For one of the top PG's in the league. I know the Nyets might end up getting nothing, but I don't think they'd pee on Dolan's hair if it was on fire.

You don't get to be considered for running countries being that stupid. Or do you?

I think if we'd throw in Billy Walker and a 4th rounder he'd have to consider it.

I'll sell you JamesLin's old bed sheets for Bonn's copy of Penthouse. It's a three-way deal. Kinda complicated.

Guys are cracking jokes but the Nets are moving to a new stadium and Gerald Wallace and Lopez arent going to sell tickets.

Dallas is going to get Deron Williams for free and the Nets will be left with nothing.

Lopez
Amare
Wallace
????
Lin

is the best they are going to get.

They could always take their chance in the draft... Oh wait they traded their picks.

Is playing at home really worth joining the Celtics West? He says he wants to win, and he says he's not getting any younger.

Dallas looked sad and old getting blown out by the Clips. I don't think the Boston Method is going to get Deron a chip.

Amare is a statistical cap killer right now and the owner of his contract is has no insurance on it.

Personally I think its a great idea for the knicks on the court but Lin is gonna print money for Dolan so I doubt he goes anywhere.

I don't like how Deron approaches the game and would not trade for him. I think he's just slightly better than Starbury was.

This is fair. I remember you mentioning him as one of the elite, which I agreed at the time, but I'm glad we're judging him by his progress this season. It just shows how good a coach Sloan is and what a solid cast he had in Utah for them to make deep playoff runs.

The Nets would be stupid to turn this down from a talent standpoint. They're not going to get anything close to that to sign and trade Deron. But, in terms of competition, I don't know if the Nets want to do any deals at all with the Knicks. But you'd have to do it if it was on the table. I like Lin but a chance to unload STAT's contract might be too good to pass up. And I love STAT as a leader, but he's obviously breaking down. THese back issues will lead to other things, as they always do.

How does Deron approach the game and what way does Lin approach the game different? To my untrained eye their games looked similar when Amar'e and Melo was out.

Let's trade Lin to the Nets so we have to deal with Linsanity in our own backyard in Brooklyn for years to come. Nets would then surely overtake the Knicks as the city's team.

Why can't we just appreciate what we have for once

Have you watched the Nets at all this season? He's not engaged. He'll pick and chose when he's going to ahve a good night. I used to think he's the kind of guy that could put a team on his back and make them into a 3/4 see in their conference. The Nets have been abysmal and it just seems he checked out early in the seaosn.

Although this would mean the Nets have to keep STAT on their books for 3 seasons. Didn't think of that. They would have to think Lin would be worth that liability.
