the real guy who ruined the NBA was Michael Jordon. Before him it was Bird, Magic... guys who were great scorers but equally good passers. MJ brought in the isolation era of NBA BB and the sport hasnt been the same. Its probably one of the things I like about an MDA Lin/Nash type team. They actually pass and run

Jordan singlehandedly invented iso? I am probably wrong, but I don't think MJ thought up the triangle offense. Plus the man was all universe Defensive team almost every year, not something you're going to see from an MDA Lin/Nash type team. Oscar Robinson was a walking triple double and he didn't win anything until his career was practically over.

I hated Jordan, but are you seriously saying he ruined the sport? By playing what amounted to winning basketball? It's not exactly like he invented sludgeball, or hack a Shaq.

absolutely he did! You guys didnt read what I said though... MJ was the greatest player I have ever seen. How could anyone take away from what MJ did as a player? No.. its what he did to the league, because the whole generation of players after him all want to be like Mike and iso iso iso iso iso and it sucks, because there was only one MJ. Now the NBA is loaded with teams and players that want to play one on one ball. The problem is none of them can sniff his iso skills, and even fewer have the complimentary midrange game that MJ had. I would say MJ was probably the best midrange shooter ever. If you got up on his he blew by you. If you sagged off even a little he rose for an easy mid range jumper or elbow or pumpfake. Who has those skills? Melo is (on offense) actually pretty similar.

But yea... MJ ruined the NBA. Everyone STILL wants to be like Mike. Only problem is they arent, so what you get is some pretty poor basketball while teams, coaches and players try to play like those teams.

Before MJ name the great ISO wings or teams that played that style? It was ball movement, fast breaks, or half court play that usually revolved around post up players with kick outs.

MJ was the best ever. No doubt in my mind. But was what he accomplished good for the NBA? Imagine if everyone wanted to be like Magic. I think you would be seeing a very different (and far more entertaining game) then if MJ never came along.

Its not MJs fault. Cant blame the dude for being better at the game then everyone else.

Fishmike & Jrod get your own thread about Jordan who believe me I have no love for because of they way he ISOed the Knicks out of so many playoff games, but this thread is about how the Euros are ruining the American game with their bull$hit flopping

Exactly.I remember playing in high school and a teammate always pulling the flop in practice and screaming like his dog just got murdered. We would always say "Hey Vlade, cut the BS"

great... one guy. Any other?

How about Tyreke Evans? Iso worked great against college player. Hows that looking? Look no further than the Knicks. Marbury, Douglas, Shumpert, Steve Francis (ok he was shot but you get the idea).

For every Kobe/MJ you could come up with 25 highly talented player whose whole game is built around beating their man.

Look at Lin! The guy has this amazing skill. Its called court vision. It used to be a standard prereq, like hoops 101. Now you dont have to see the whole floor. Just beat your guy. You disagree with this generalization?

Name the NBA players with good court vision
Name the NBA players whos games are built around beating the one guy who is guarding them

Think the ratio is the same pre/post MJ?

I don't think MJ ruined the NBA. I think the false interpretation of his game that ruined the NBA. Players watched MJ and thought

1.) I can ISO and lead my team to 70 wins a titles like Mike does(even though no one is Mike). I don't need to move the ball because Mike didn't
2.) If I can do fancy dunks adn moves I will get a shoe contract and if I get a shoe contract it means I'm a great player

I just hope that people will like me

it wasn't so much MJ the player as much as it was MJ the marketing icon that ruined the game.

we are saying the same thing in different ways. Everyone wanted to be like Mike. Its been 10 years and Kobe is the closest thing and everyone knows he's great but he aint Mike.

I'm a Euro Baller and you're welcome. The corruption of your basketball culture is the doing of And 1 and I guess indirectly MJ.

Is attracting a charge a selfish thing to do or a thing you do for your team?

I don't agree with acting, but I agree with players focusing the refs attention on the actual contact created by the offensive/defensive player.

I am not disputing your point. It needs to be used correctly. JVG used it for Spree and Houston very often and it worked for them as well.

I do agree that the "be like Mike" Kinderlach really got the wrong message. As will the Star bringing "their talents" to other cities/beaches message further degenerate bball.

How can they have a flop video without the king of flop himself - Reggie Miller?

King of flops: Gallinari!

He's taken it to a new level. You don't even realize he's flopping.

But he sells contact better than Vlade.

Gallinari is the evolution of flop.

I was just editing my post to add him. His contortions will be legendary and the example/guide for all future floppers/flops.
