Don't know guys, but I see two guys on the bench better than Fields right now.
Shrump (ok, injured) and JR Smith both play much better defense than Fields, and both are better scorers.
OK, Fields gets you a few RBs. But I just don't see how he's going to stay in the SL long term.
He's fair, but doesn't excel in any one thing. He's a great backup.

BTW, anyone see his wide open air ball from the corner last night?

permanently. his airball was his one lowlight of last night. he has become quite adept at setting himself and teammates up off the dribble. his defense is solid. he will not play important minutes in the fourth quarter, but he will continue to be our starter. he is far more of an offensive threat than shumpert btw.

shumpert ranks in the bottom 8% in the league on points per pick and roll, according to bballbreakdown

points per pick and roll?! Is he a PG? Is he a pick setter? Who cares?

Anyone see him getting to loose balls in the Net debacle? Anyone count the number of oops from Lin? Chemistry anyone?

What's our record again since we've been starting Lin with ex-Mrs. Rautins?

Not saying he can't excel off the bench, but I think he's much more effective as a starter. Give some of his minutes to JR's new haircut; positively, when the defensive effort needs to be kicked up a notch (I still can't believe I'm saying this in multiple posts).

I'll say it again, don't mess with the nerd yoots. I really really really like winning.

Fields can run pnr. So can Smith. So can Davis. So can Melo.

Shumpert is a liability on offense. Teams leave him wide open to congest the paint. I know he is a rookie and he will improve, but he is not a starter on this team right now. I'm tired of seeing teams load up the paint on the Lin pnr to have the ball inevitably swing to a wide open Shumpert, who attempts a pnr of his own and settles for a midrange CLANK.

IMHO Shrump leads the league in steals if he gets starters minutes.

He'd also lead the league in Crawford imitations on shot selection.

Fields has also been very poor from outside. Which is why teams are still packing the paint against out starting 5. JR would provide more balance as an outside threat. This is why I thought he would eat into Landry's minutes. It's only a matter of time.

I'm not convinced that JR is a better scorer than Fields. He's a better 3 point shooter with more athleticism but Fields is much more efficient. Plus I don't trust JR and his defense. He'll play when he's motivated but always remember that old habits always come back.

Fields' game is slashing to the basket. i wish he would dribble less and stop trying to create his own shot and his D is not that great.

I agree and this is why I was against the signing. But JR is going to make his case and eventually start at the 2 for . But Fields is definitely the better offensive player his game doesn't me

I don't think there's a clear cut answer here. Fields and Shump have both been weak behind the arc. But Shump also has had problems finishing, while he excels defensively. So, I guess we stick with the more experienced player until there's a clear cut answer.

We need more scorers in the starting lineup? Huh?

Fields brings a unique skillset to the table. I'm happy with him as the starter and there being scorers leading the second team

Fields has been the starting 2 for two years now and MDA has total faith in him. There's no way it happens. Fields is the better player.

It's about the units. Fields starts because he works well with that unit.

SWAGBALLS comes in with the second unit, and he makes it rain.

Why ruin Landry's progress and our bench scoring in one fell swoop?

Its not who starts but who finishes anyway.

I like Landry in the staring lineup with Shump and JR both coming off the bench. This makes our 2nd unit much stronger than if we were to start eiher Shump or JR.

Landry starts, Smith is the bench offense and Shum is developing. If Smith is out there at start there's minimal consistent offensive boost on the bench and he's taking touches away from Melo and Amare. As I mentioned in another thread, Fields gets his point without have plays set up for him, with Melo, Amare, and Lin on the floor that should be his and Chandler's job...to be ready if the big three can't get off a shot or clean up a miss (be it a put back or a nice jumper).

This team is seriously deep right now, again mentioned in another thread, deeper than they were before the Melo trade. And all it took was the miraculous revelation of Lin as a real player.
