Basketball players, in this sense, are defined as the players whose skill sets best COMPLIMENT one another.

Shift du Playoff Stretch Run

These guys have been playing in unison and winning. Not on star quality, but on teamwork.

Huge props to Jeffries and Steve Novak for clutch plays when they were needed most.

Lin - what more can be said?
Fields - brings multiple skills. Bonded with Lin. Long live the BBC.
Novak - did he just do the "discount double check" move?
Jeffries - a defensive demon. No second shots.
Chandler - The Captain

Carmelo - slides into the three spot seamlessly, if JR can - Carmelo Can.

JR Smith - better than Kobe. Yeah, I said it. Nice move to make that first shot.
Shumpert - defensive intensity and young legs

Stoudemire - a liability on defense. His offense still needs fine tuning. Playing on fumes.
Baron Davis - please rest Lin before he passes out.

That's ten

Bonus - Harrellson gets Chandler.

Jorts will take some of Amare minutes if continues to be hesitant but I really hope Amare can get back stronger at the end of the year.

i thought amare would be great with lin but he looks like he is 60 yaers old. the only way he score is if he is wide open under the basket. I mean before his brother's unofortunate death he strated to look like the old amare but now he looks worse again

Yes, long live the BBC. Because of this, I'd keep Fields in the SL with Lin. Smith's confidence never waivers so hes going to bring it even in a 6th man role. Not sure id Fields loses confidence if he is replaced in the SL. Besides, its all about who finishes, and I give props to the coach for leaving Smith in the game at the end to space the floor despite intorduing himself to guys on the lay-up line before the game.

I'm just glad that the team is actually playing within the system, which is predicated on TEAM BALL. It's not about forcing one guy cuz he's the "Star"!

There have been a few guys that have criticized Mike's style of team ball, where the open man takes the shot, but when you see it in action like this you understand that it frees the team from dependence on 1 or 2 guys. If you have a good Starting PG and backup PG, you can really play some great team ball. Baron is still a HUGE piece to this puzzle. It'll be great to have him in the mix as we move along.

I can't get over the fact of how much $$$ we will owe 'Melo and Amare over the next 4 years... especially Amare.

this doesn't look like a mental hurdle. all season long, Amare has looked FAR removed from his previous athletic and physical prowess.
and he doesn't play help Defense.
in other words... I think our 4 position is a glaring weakness. No post-up offensive game.

This offense isn't predicated on posting up a 4. All of this is fine, but STAT has had some big performances this year. He's not killing it like last year, but until he has to miss time due to some serious issue, i'm not going to say that he's some washed up guy. STAT still moves well and gets his shots within the offense. Today he took what he was given and didn't force it. Solid game IMO.

STAT can pick his spots and be more helpful than forcing it. This team is about sharing the ball and helping each other on D.

but we all know that in the post-season, it becomes a different game. a half-court game, higher emphasis on DEfense, less fast-break points, and that jumpshooting teams never make their way to the NBA Finals.
what are key strengths to championship-caliber teams?
ball movement. rebounding. defense. high-percentage shots in the paint.

Amare has not excelled in any of those categories, yet we are paying him $99 million.
i would trade him while his stock value is high.

And without Jeffries in the lineup the four spot is a glaring liability on defense.

Why else would D'Antoni start Shumpert on Dirk?

Not cool.

We are playing great team ball and feeding off each others energy. It's beautiful thing to watch.

Lin is a start already wheter we are ready to label him one or not. He probably has a bigger global following than Lebron and Kobe right now.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Novak has been incredible and Jeffries too. Really setting up a clinic for what good role players can and should do.

Earl's got more starting line ups than Downtown Larry Brown.

STAT will be fine. STAT is still a major threat and still draws defensive attention. He won't have to carry the team as he once did. He's more of a solid piece than the lead guy he was in his 1st year here. STAT is still capable of going off at anytime.

As for jump shooting teams. The Knicks aren't supposed to be a jump shooting team. It's a combination of penetration, attacking the basket and speading the floor with good perimeter shooting. Most of our offense is about attacking the basket!!! Only when we didn't have good PG play did it devolve into mostly jump shooting.

I think with throwing out new definitions, we kinow who the best ballers are on the team. You need to make up terms to really like the way Lin and Chandler are playing right now.

Panos - the post does NOT list starters. It lists the first five as the most complimentary skill sets and most effective as a team.

Lin, Fields, Novak, Jeffries and Chandler.

Nice sweater though.

Thanks for the clarification.

I was trying to use the one with the patched jean overalls, but couldn't get it to post

Panos - the patched jeans would be too much.

Who are your favored five for this suddenly entertaining Knicks roster?

(The 5 guys you trust most to play cohesive ball on both ends?)

Personally, I like Shump over Fields. Rookie he may be, but I think he's better on both sides of the ball.
I shrink at the thought of Jeffries logging many minutes. You'll get too little dependable scoring up front.
And I think Amare works out of his slump, regains his form (I hope!), and would be a good compliment to Chandler and Novak.
I think Novak works in there terrific. He's been automatic and stretches the floor. I like:

Lin
Shrump
Novak
Amare
Chandler

I will have to be proven to that Melo can flow with the rest of the team. It was really just awful watching his multitude of jab steps while everyone else just stood watching earlier this season. Boring, ugly basketball. I hope I'm wrong.
