Casey Jacobson Is Not a Fan of J.R. Smith

"I played with JR his rookie year in New Orleans in 2005. We were a bad team, full of me-first guys, but he took the crown. I’d never seen a guy so intent on shooting the ball every time it hit his hands and I’m sure I never will again. Watching him during his latest Denver years, I can see that not much has changed."

Casey Jacobson is the greatest player of all time- if he says that a rookie was selfish in his first year in the league, then it must still be true to this day. You only need to play with someone for one season 7 years ago to be an expert on what they're like in the present day.

Seriously, JR was about 18 years old. This is irrelevant.

It's not like he's changed though.

I'll see if I can find it, but someone on another board put up a list of players who take the most shots per min. From what I remember, Lou Williams ranked first, followed by Crawford and a few others. JR and Toney Douglas averaged about the same shot attempts per minute.

JR is indefensible. One cannot discredit any comments from a former player.

One can hope he will work towards maturity on or off the court.

There is a reason he is 26 and without a long term contract.

All that matters is what he does in a Knicks uniform. If he chucks, if he don't listen, if he can't be a follower, the he can gtfo and move on.

Let's judge people on what they do here! If he is a bench player then one of the most important things for him do do is to score and score a lot!

Well, in contrast, Baron Davis, in his latest interview on Knicksnow.com, says JR Smith "Is like a brother to me". Combine this with Melo also being like family to him, and the leadership of Tyson Chandler and Amar'e, I think we have enough players who he'll respect and listen to, and will help keep him on the right path.

I completely agree with Moonangie- I'm giving him a chance and a clean slate, and if he messes it up then kick him off the team.

All we can do is judge him on how he handles himself here in NY with this team. We've had guys come here with bad reps before and it turned out fine. People deserve to prove who they are. Shawne Williams had a bad rep but matured and proved that he was a good guy and teammate.

The math appears to be the following. The prorated share of the $2.5 million exemption appears to be about $1.9 Million. He gets $4.2 million over 2 years, so we are offering him $2.3 next year, in the event, he decides he wants to stay with the Knicks.

It does occur to me that he will have absolutely huge financial motivation to play well for the Knicks. If he is able to behave himself while on the big stage in NY, he can really make some big time money in a new contract from whoever wins the auction for his services. Does he have the self control to be a good team mate?

Seems like Melo wouldn't have gone out on a limb and argued in favor of signing J R, unless he believed J R wasn't going to embarrass him. Also the 3 guys with the Clippers seemed to think that he could help. It makes me wonder..... .
