I DVRd the Sac post game and watched the interviews last night

From MDA:
The goal is keep opponents to less than 20 points a quarter
The defense is better because the players are better. Specifically he credited Tyson with being the QB on defense and loves everything he brings.
Also specifically mentioned Shumps impact on the defensive side also

One hilarious moment was when a female reported asked how Jeremy was going to adjust to all these minutes and how was the coaching staff going to keep him fresh.

MDA looked at her for like 10 seconds with a look on his face like is that a serious question?
Then he said "he's 23..."
But quickly added "he's a smart kid. He reads. Im sure if his energy is low there is a... self help book or something"

Can we finally start putting to rest that MDA will never play high caliber defense? Because now that we have good defensive players the Knicks are a top 5 defensive team.

the knicks have been playing defense all year, but it's not credit to d'antoni, it's credit to everyone BUT d'antoni i truly find the people that can't give mda any sort of credit laughable.

the defense has been great all year, alot of that has to do with chandler, but hey, mda wanted chandler BECAUSE of his defense and the same goes for jeffries. how many coaches in this league would be playing jeffries the way mda does?

Its the defense that has me tickled. The fact that the Knicks are among the top 5 in the most important defensive stat tell you everything you need to know. This team has a real chance at a run THIS YEAR.

As fun as the Laker game was the one that really had me hooked was the Sota game. The Knicks NEVER win those kinds of games in recent years. We never seem to hang around when things arent going well. Lin misses 11 shots in a row, yet we stuck around, kept defending, kept fighting and eventually win. Same thing with Toronto. That game was won completely on defense.

Man this season has such a Giants feels to it. People hating on Eli, people calling for coach, mediocre expectations.... then after a nasty losing streak the team turns it around and gets hot. Lin has upstaged Victor Cruuuuz! What were the odds????

Definatly an exciting time to be a fan.

I feel the same way. Add the Rapts game to that aswell. In past, we would have folded and mailed it in. Now we are winning those games. Also, I know the Kings are bad, but we turned around and put them away early. In years past, we have had a let down and fell behind early giving a them confidence. We would have fought back and probably came up short in that one too. Things have definitely changed for the better. Looking forward to an exciting rest of the season.

While Toronto was shooting 60 pct from the field. Hubie Brown must have said 10 times that "the Raptors can get any shot they want at anytime against the Knicks".

They looked awful defensively until Shump threw down the hammer. The D has looked much better but will be interesting to see them play against top scoring teams. The staff def gets credit for the better defense just like the killing they took for the crappy defenses of the past. Goes both ways.

I loved the Chandler signing, loved it. When the losing started I pretty much checked out of the board because the negativity was nauseating. You can only stomach so many daily threads calling for the coach to be fired or Bonn reminding everyone on every thread that he said this wouldnt be a good year.

I really hoped MDA didnt get canned because I thought it would deflate a lot of the guys who came here (partially because of him). What happened was the reverse. MDA got his coveted PG and I would love nothing more than MDA be the mentor for this kid.

Unlike a lot of people I dont enjoy or want to see people fired. Happy to see things turning around

If it weren't for Lin, people would have been fired. I didn't want MDA to be fired either because I actually like him a little, but it would have gotton ugly. I will admit I was pretty sour but that's because I felt the players didn't seem to mesh well together. I more so wanted to find a way to get Howard here even though I'm a huge Chandler fan.

I'm with you there... I've gotten burned in my life by placing faith my faith in people but that's probably the only time something excellent happens.

I won't say that I'm a huge D'Antoni supporter because, well, I was raised watching a different style of basketball. I'm also not the most optimistic Knicks fan, considering my formative fandom years included Charles Smith, 2-18, and The Finger Roll.

All that said, Pringles deserves a chance because I think he's done a good job with a team in constant upheaval. Thigns should stay the same for a while. And the players seem to be having fun. I don't think that matters directly but indirectly? Shit I'm having the most fun with this team since Camby and Spreewell brought something new and exciting to the table

Let's Go Giants

Wow, looks like Mike D'antoni is finally showing he's the defensive genius he's been labeled for so long.

Defense is vastly improved because of guys like Chandler, Shump, Jorts & Jeffries and seems to be getting better every game as they are starting to understand Woodson's schemes. They haven't been switching as much and are fighting over screens just watch shumpert and even fields. We'll see about Melo when he comes back

Defense is two way street (it's a two way relationship). You need players (not just individual but helps when you have chandler and shump) and coach with a system that is working in all cylinders. Some teams that may not have top notch individual defensive players (not many out there) but can still have exceptional TEAM defense.

I don't know where it's coming from, but it is awesome to see!!!!!!!!!

yeah i never seen a Knicks team trap so successfully before. Its like every time the opposing pg is bringing the ball up the court I'm watching Shump waiting for him to steal the ball and start a fastbreak

Statistics are nice and can be manipulated to say whatever you want them to say but honestly, come playoff time do you see the Knicks capable of making stops when they need to? Do you see them bearing down on the defensive end like a top defensive team would?

D'Antoni has done that before, but now with this group that has more defensive talent, it's more effective. This team literally has a higher level of capable defenders than we've had in a long time.
MDA and Woodson have worked GREAT together, when so many thought there could be problems. mDA never resisted Woodson's help and actually gave him TONS of leeway. People don't realize it, but that's MDA's M.O. He does it with his players and with his staff. He doesn't believe in limiting people. He wants your talent to flourish.

People used to complain that MDA had guys taking jumpers like Jared, Jorts, Balkman and now even Tyson is taking the occasional jumper. There's a method to his madness. We've seen guys develop confidence in other parts of their games and they love him for it. No other coach would let those guys shoot like that. Even STAT wasn't much of a shooter when he 1st came in the league. It manifests itself on the defensive end. Guys will go thru walls for him.

so how does one manipulate the points per possession stat? please explain. either you are being deliberately obtuse or you don't understand the statistic.

to me, it has to be the most accurate reflection a team's defensive prowess.

we jumped from 22nd last year to 6th so far this season.
