is there a better fit for this team and this PG? You want to see Phil Jackson coaching this kid? Curious what the sentiment is...

You have to Extend him if not for any reason other than to give him more juice.

If Melo won't join in the fun MDA needs the juice to sit him and set him right.

But if your MDA, why the worry? His stock goes up and so would his price if the team continues to surge.

if you had your way we would have traded Arenas (when he was making $20mm)

You convienently forget I included McGee AND a pick in the trade scenario and only offered expiring contracts. Think Cleveland Baron Davis trade.

Nice try though.

I've been mixed on MDA, but at this point, yes you probably have to give him an extension. Lets see how the rest of the season plays out though. But at this point, things are looking up for MDA...

Because Dolan has made some extremely bad decisions. the "there isn't a better fit" idea doesn't necessarily cause him to make the right decision. If Dolan is infatuated with the idea of having a hall of fame coach who was also a former Knick, he might get his own wish. Except MDA's has a trump card. If Lin insists that MDA returns before he resigns, Dolan may be forced to capitulate.

There are a ton of people at this forum who want MDA gone, for numerous foolish reasons. I don't think that is going to change. For example, one guy says MDA has lost a lot of games over the last few years and as a result he needs to go. Is that guy going to change his mind because of the "better fit" idea? I think the people like you and me, who think MDA is the best fit for the Knicks as coach will continue to be in the minority unless or until the Knicks prove in the playoffs that they have become a real contender for a championship.

I agree, but can we just give Lin a bit more time to establish how good, and how sustained he can be?

We're basically in control of both, right now.

Now- in another 10 or 20 games, I might think to extend MDA.

even clyde last night said that mda should get alot of praise for the having the gusto to play the kid when his job was on the line. lin and mda is a perfect marriage. they fit PERFECTLY for each other.

No offense to you, Clyde or anyone else, but there were a bunch of us here calling for Lin to start- that we had seen flashes in his limited garbage time minutes of being the PG that MDA needs for his system to work.

And much sooner than MDA ever got around to.

I'd give him credit if it happened much sooner.

If MDA can get Melo to buy into the team concept, and they make it 2nd round of the playoffs or beyond...then yes, you give MDA 2 or 3 more years, since he's got his new Nash.

let the season play out and then I'll have my mind made up. Things are looking good for though

Serious question: what would you consider "the Knicks brand"? I'd say defense and rebounding and no doubt last year's turnstile D was infuriating, but the arrival of Chandler and Shump and with Jeffries willing to get demolished on charges, I'm feeling pretty good about our flirtation with dirty, lunch-pail Knicks ball. Jorts brings more of that grit.

That was my biggest question about MDA. I've always liked his demeanor and the way he constantly sticks up for guys. His defense of Jeffries was awesome as was his ripping of the assistance coaches for snubbing Iman ("that's why they're assistants").

pretty much the same as you said... I'd say the Knicks brand blue collar, lunch pail ball, where even if the other team is more talented, they won't sweat more. They won't be tougher. The won't want it more. Their balls won't be bigger. Their heart won't be bigger.

I always thought Pringles mastered the Phoenix brand, uptempo (Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle, Charles Barkley) and possibly small ball (think Rex Chapman). I always thought of Pringles as a "I'll run you out of the gym" type of coach as opposed to a "get out of my way or I will run over you" type of coach. Seems like he's adapting and adding some NY into his philosophy

I still don't like D'Antoni as an in game coach. Still doesn't use Time Out's wisely, runs players into the ground, etc. But I guess he's proved time and again that his offense is great with a solid PG. If we make a run deep into the playoffs this might be Allan Houston all over again. An unforgettable moment that earned someone more than they hsould've gotten while altering the course of the franchise. I still don't think Mik eis what the team needs long term. But it's been a hell of fun thing to watch the last 7 games.

I suppose we have to wait and see. I'm just not a D'Antoni guy.

I always felt that we should wait for Baron Davis to play before any decisions were made on MDA. Now Lin came in and did the things that I expected Baron Davis to do.

Don't think you extend him right this minute but maybe by playoff time.

I think its still too early to decide on whether to extend him or not. Even with all the recent success I'm still leaning toward PJax.
with Lin in the fold how do you NOT extend MDA?
