You want to stop the Lin pnr and Melo iso simultaneously? Pack the damn paint. It's too easy a gameplan, dude, and I don't like it. I didnt mean to say that we were guaranteed to lose, so my bad. But if we do lose, be it the first round, semifinals, conference finals, it will be because of spacing. I guarantee it. But his attitude problems are overblown. His former team Chicago is even pursuing him (despite their bad history). He is not the thug you people perceive him as. And his coming here is a low risk/high reward scenario. You bench him if he acts up. If he plays, he is magnitudes an improvement over Toney Douglas. What don't you people understand? "LINISH HIM!"

![]() I really can't decide. I'd make a terrible GM anyways, so I wouldn't listen to my opinion on this subject, even if I had one!

![]() I'd have to say nay thank you. I don't want to mess with the chemistry of an already fragile team. It's not exactly like we're the San Antonio Spurs. We're the Knicks. I mean, we're on a 5 game winning streak with a new prospect at guard. The 2 spot is reserved for Fields (Lin's bestestest pal) and Shump. TD might work himself back into the rotation with a better shot too.
But with that said, if a short leash is installed and a willingness to defer to others from JR, then he'd be much welcomed and preferred over Billy, TD, Bibby, Baron (depending on health). His brainphuckz are just a huge worry Legalize di NBA

![]() I want JR Smith off the bench because our bench production is PUTRID. However, if by some miracle we trade Amare and Chandler for Dwight Howard he immediately would become a starter.
Regardless he'd be the best SG we have. NY Knicks - Retirement home for players and GMs

![]() No team is perfect but I actually think we'd do well without Smith. I really wouldn't care if he went to the LAC's. This team is on a different path now. We have 2 All Stars coming back and a former All Star in Baron. I really don't think we need smith as badly. For one thing I want Shump to gain full confidence and have a chance to blossom here. Smith would take some of the shine from Shump being a SG that is more experienced. I'd happily trade some immediate prowess for the long term goal of developing Shump as our future SG. If we get Smith fine, but i'm not getting all crazy about him at this point.

![]() Depends on what his intentions are at this point of his career. If he is looking to go somewhere to be a star then this isn't the team for him. If he is looking to fit a role and try and win a championship then this is the perfect fit for him given his skill set. We can pay him more then Clippers to play a role that he would exceed in. If he is looking to be a star then he should look somewhere else.
But he is from New Jersey. https://vote.nba.com/en Vote for your Knicks.

![]() I was originally was on board with adding JR to the lineup but Shump's play since moving back to SG has been outstanding...He brought us back from a 9/10 point deficit in the second quarter of the Minny game and played well in the fourth before fouling out...I really want this kid to develop and JR could take the time that Shump needs...I'm undecided..

![]() It's a big risk. I don't know if he likes Chinese people; I've read reports of unprofessional conduct while in China. It tells me doesn't respect the Chinese people, so how will he ball with Lin? I don't know.

Elite defenses make a living watching threes rain in from NBDL talent like Steve Novak. And I'm sure Melo will just sit out at 18-20 feet and miss j's all day, that's how he got to make the millions he's making, right? JR Smith is a me-first cancer. They still talk about it in NO, they still talk about it in Denver. Taking 60 shots a night in China is not going to change this perception. This Knick's team psyche is a fragile enough thing at this point in happy Linland. What don't you get about not screwing that up? How about another few poll choices: |

![]() I dont want to have him, and the track record of our management these last years indicates we dont get him anyways.
Gallo, Fields, Jorts, Shumpert, Tyson, Novak, Jeffries, Felton... All character guys, hard workers, good locker room influences. JR just dont fit in there. If management thinks we be fine with him and he has a productive season with no bad influence to our chemistry, Im happy that I was wrong. |

Melo eats up most of Novak's minutes, so the spacing dynamic changes. Regardless, Novak can't be the only three-point threat on the roster, especially since he only plays limited minutes. The playoffs are different from the regular season. It's evident. I used to watch Melo's early days in Denver where AI and crew would run-and-gun their way to 50 regular season wins each year, but as soon as the game slowed down matched against elite defenses, our lack of perimeter shooting (in most cases, sub-30% behind the arc in the postseason) would be exploited ruthlessly. Not that teams don't gameplan in the regular season, they just are far more focused and improved at it when matched up against the same opponent night after night after night. Do they talk JR's me-first attitude in Chicago? That was his former team, correct? Yet they are strongly pursuing him as well. I get the whole fragile psyche thing. That's why you bring JR off the bench, play him in limited minutes early, and restrict his playing time if he acts up. Give him a short leash and let him prove himself to be a valuable asset. ![]() Those poll options are pretty funny...
So what if they pack the defenses in during the playoffs? Pretty sure Melo, Novak, Lin, and Baron can make opposing Ds pay and then it'll be right back to the PnR when they are forced to adjust. Has everyone forgotten that this dude isn't a solid defender? Fields and Shump are gonna be relegated to the bench, so JR can play the turnstile and leak down the floor for easy dunks? No thanks |
