When Baron Comes back, why not send douglas to the dleague. They run the same system down there, he can work on his point guard skills and most importantly his confidence, he can also work without the pressure of nyk fans

Jeremy Lin said it that he gained more confidence when he played in the dleague.

thoughts?

Why not. I mean Toney Douglas is so awful right now that as long as hes not on the floor were better. Ive given up on him, hes awful in almost every way on the court. I seriously would just cut him if we cant get anything for him.

I havent dislike a player so much since Jerome James

Hard to dislike him like Jerome James. This guy gives it his all every game. Its not his fault that he has an IQ <= 40

The smart move would be to trade him for anything useful, including a late draft pick. He is virtually useless at this point.

Yeah agreed. Though, even last year he had all of the same flaws he has now, but he was at least hitting his shot. His defense is terrible and I was never sure why he got as much credit because he got a steal here and there. He picks up his guy way to high almost every time he's in and he blows past him with ease which breaks down the D. I think this is as much of reason why he's a run killer compared to his offensive ineptness.

Would be nice if a coach would tell him to stop picking up his guy so high - pisses me off. Lin did not play press defense and looked so much better.

I bet Tony D isn't 100% from his 2 shoulder surgeries... but hey, if he says he's healthy enough to play... we are judging him correctly. He shoots like a guy who hasn't shot a ball in 6 months. (or 6 years)

lol.. gotta know the rules folks.

only rookies or players in their second year in the nba can be sent to the d-league.

I think Mike Breen was right on about Douglas

He was put into the role of PG which he is not. He has had a shoulder problem and maybe its taking time to recover. TD hit more three's than any other player in the NBA second half of last season. If he is used in a NON PG role--maybe even a three guard set--I think we will see improved play from him.

If it is a pure shooter we need, The Answer Man would prefer to give the ball to Steve Novak. Novak is shooting 49 per cent from three point range. FORTY NINE percent. Novak brings the added bonus of being 6'10.

Douglas is WAY below the Mendoza line at 24 per cent. Sheesh.

Two different positions. I agree Novak needs a 15 + minute role--too good of a shooter.

The idea of justifying keeping him because he "may" be able to fit a role as a second string player- a role we may not need him for us patently ridiculous. As Earl pointed out we already have better shooters and he plays horrible defense. If he can't be sent to the D- League we should cut him if/when Baron gets healthy.

The thing with third tier players like him is he has to fit the role given to him and make the most of it. No team had the luxury of creating the perfect role for a bench warming scrub. In his case his game doesn't translate to our needs. This experiment should never have happened but it's over now.

Man, let's give the kid a break. I think it's his shoulder. i was convinced when he hit air on 2 3pt attempts in the game against Utah. once he gets his shot back, he'll make an impact. unlike Novak who can only shoot, TD can shoot and drive to the basket. but yeah, not the smartest player...

briggs - the days of inflexible positions is past. Steve Novak can run at guard with Lin and have a field day from the arc.

Just because he is 6'10 does NOT mean Novak cannot cameo at the two. We need all the height we can get over the next three games. Beyond 7' Chandler and 6'11 Jeffries, we get awfully shrimpy. 6'2 Toney Douglas is having one of the worst seasons of any NBA player in the league. 6'10 Novak can flat out shoot it, so let him shoot it.

Numbers don't lie.

Agree with MisterEarl - it can be done, particularly if the Knicks are playing zone for a stretch. The Knicks have a few capable passers at who could play SF (Anthony/Fields/Shumpert) who could compensate.
