As expected, Baron Davis will be on the court today when Knicks practice. Big day for him, and them.

Berman saying Davis will practice today and potentially play by Saturday in Houston. Circle your calendars, things are about to get interesting.

Baron Davis is likely to participate in his first practice today and the Knicks are shooting for the injured point guard to make his debut Saturday in Houston for the finale to their four-game road trip, according to sources.

The Knicks prefer to start Davis on the road because there would be less pressure for him to perform. But if he has the slightest setback during practices, then his debut would be pushed back to the first game back, against the Pistons at the Garden next Tuesday.

If there were no setbacks in his running drills yesterday, Davis, suffering from a herniated disc, is expected to be cleared this morning but his first practice could be limited.

Davis has, as expected, beat the timetable his agent, Todd Ramasar, set in mid-December of “at least eight to 10 weeks.’’

Davis has been reluctant to publicly set a date because it hinges on his day-to-day progress and he doesn’t want to be disappointed.

“Every team goes through adversity,” Davis said. “This is our adversity. There was all the hype about us winning the championship. Judge us at the end of the season. Our goal is to be ready by April.’’

Guarantee: All Dialogue Reported Verbatim

Waiter: "May I take your order sir?"

Amare: "I'll have the salmon"

Carmelo: "Where is the all-you-can-eat table?"

Amare: "Yo Son, this is what I'm talking about"

Melo: "Dude, I'm hungry"

Amare: "Sheesh, I'm hungry too, but you don't see me stuffing my face.."

Waiter: "I can come back..."

Carmelo: "What's wrong with the all-you-can-eat joint?"

Amare: (annoyed) "That's not the objective"

Awkward Silence. Waiter smirks.

There isn't really anything to discuss. We knew he was going to start practice soon. Give us some discussion topics for this thread if you want replies.

"we all knew"

actually, there were a bunch of people who said he would never play and he couldn't be counted on to play.

I asked you to give some discussion topics. This is your reply? You're not gonna get a discussion out of that.
Regarding your comment, I don't recall anyone saying that he would never even have one day of practice.

Meanwhile, Back At Dinner

(Guarantee: All Dialogue Reported Verbatim)

Amare: "You look troubled"

Carmelo: “Maybe I need to not take so many shots. I don’t know. That’s just a bunch of stuff that goes through my mind."

Amare: "You are starting to sound like Herman Cain"

Melo: As long as I keeps shooting, everything will be fine.

Stat: No, it won't

Melo: "That's what I do. I scores points. I hit big shots. That is all I know."

Amare: "You ever think about changing from being a player who can dominate games to a player who can make his team dominant?"

Carmelo: "I'm just coming down, taking less shots, just figuring out ways, how to make other guys better. Should I pass it more?”

Amare: (cough) Did you hear the fans screaming for you to pass?

Melo: "I thought they were screaming at you"

Waiter slaps himself in the forehead.

Carmelo: "who are you texting?"

Amare: "Baron, maybe he can join us..."

If he really is day to day with a back injury it would seem like a better choice to wait at least another week. Its an accelerated schedule and we aren't even at the all star break yet. I've had this injury a few times from bball, and they can be really tough to shake if you don't give yourself time to heal. I'm not even close to being in pro shape but I didn't have to play that schedule either. Hope it works out.

exactly, mr. earl. melo shouldn't be asked to carry the weight of running the offense. having baron here frees melo up to do what do. which is score with the best of them in the league. and rebound pretty dang well, too.

does OKC ask Durant to facilitate for others? no. Melo is more of a Durant than a Lebron. He's not a point guard the way Lebron was in HS.

Let Melo be who he is and he'll play better.

It's on Baron to involve Amar'e and Melo (and even Tyson) - a big challenge to be sure, but one I think he's up for.

I'm excited about Baron in the lineup. He adds things this team needs so badly:

1) a floor general
2) a third dependable scorer
3) an outside shooter
4) someone who can penetrate the lane and collapse defenses

I think he's going to be insanely valuable.
