Multiple sources (waiting on confirmation) have told TKB that the Knicks would love to and are actively looking to add the former Nuggets’ sharpshooter to help their backcourt woes. The team feels that with Smith and Baron Davis in the mix it would allow them to look to make other roster moves and move guards Toney Douglas and Iman Shumpert off the bench.

Can you say perfect starting SG? Pure shooter, PNR player, versatile scorer, 20 ppg potential, etc.

Davis
Smith
Carmelo
Amare
Chandler

Douglas/Bibby
Shumpert
Fields/Walker
Harrelson
Jeffries

That's just awful.

Sounds like an Isiah move.

42% career FG = pure shooter?

The guy chucks shots, is an awful defender and an even awful character. Even his family sucks. His sister beat a fan in the stands in China and he faked an injury with his team so he wouldn't play.

You really are advocating this signing?

he's a career 37.1% three point shooter.

here are his 3P shooting numbers the last 5 seasons:

39.0%
40.3%
39.7%
33.8%
39.0%

In that GIF he single handedly won that WCF game against the soon-to-be champions.

JR Smith? Jeez, is it really that bad?

Did not like Melo and Im trying to like him. I respect his talent and he is basically an agreeable chap, but this clown with Tranformer Tats on his neck is serious bonehead.

Kid has talent but dumb as spit.

Might as well bring in Delonte while we at it!

Donnie gone the place is going to hell I tell ya!

I like it but I think he will be more useful coming off the bench for much needed scoring. We Really need Shump's D in the backcourt next to Davis and Chandler. We do not need a chucker in the starting lineup. Got enough of those but off the bench he can chuck away

An isiah move would be locking him to a long term deal at 8 mil per. Not doing that.

So over imaginary rosters that look cute on paper. JR Smith is as combustible as they come, which is not always a good thing. As the Knicks are in audition mode, and have no right to be choosey beggars in the backcourt, JR can bring his talents to New York.

Individual stats mean nothing at this point because the roles are subject to change and egos MUST be checked at the glass partions leading from the new MSG locker room.

There is only ONE question: Does JR Smith makes the guys around him better, or worse?

most years I would hate a JR Smith signing. But with vets like Melo, Amare, Tyson and an undoubtedly short contract, why not?

Knicks need what he brings: experience and shooting at the SG spot. He's a bit of a chucker and a knucklehead, but he can guard and spread the floor.

You are kidding yourself if you think JR is a worse defender than Fields.

Fact of the matter is that our offense is worse than our defense this year. Why? No shooters and no scorers besides Melo and sometimes Amare. JR is comfortable as a spot-up shooter, and damnit when he gets hot he has the most range in the league. Even better, he can put the ball on the floor and finish at the rim with his athleticism or dish it to the bigs for an easy dunk.

I don't like Shump in the starting line-up because the spacing will be disastrous. I also think Shump would be more comfortable as THE chucker on the bench unit. He'll get more minutes when we play premiere scoring guards.

We should trot out this lineup for ****s and giggles:

PG - Marbury
SG - Smith
SF - World Peace
PF - Rasheed
C - Cousins

To answer the honorable Answer Man's question,
since he's played with MELO before, that's a plus....
but it's hard to think he'll make other players better.

He COULD be very entertaining, though, judging from that Laker game clip.

Then again, a talented and fearless knucklehead could be exactly what turns a dysfunctional offense into one big happy family.

Expect the unexpected.

Jr Smith sounds like Ray Allen from your description.

Too bad he is the complete opposite of that.

I thought we were done going after bad character players. I guess not.

I can live with Smith starting. He will stretch the floor for Amare/Melo better than anyone we have. Davis doesn't even need to worry about scoring much just running the offense. Shump can be brought along slowly now without the risk of a bighead. There was no doubt in my mind that they were going to remove Fields from starting. That in itself is a huge plus because he kills the team when he misses wide open shots playing with Amare/Melo

"It Just Doesn't Matter... "

At this point the Knicks could bring in Dennis Rodman, Meta World Peace and World Be Free to shake up things.

Go crazy or go home.
