Last I heard he was in China. Didn't see if accepted Denver's qualifying offer or not. If he did, not sure he can be traded.

From what I read, he doesn't want to be in Denver. Would be interesting if he came to the Knicks at his qualifying offer # for a deal involving TD, Fields, & Walker. Then make his money next year.

Wil plays 3 positions very well. Would be the most valuable 6th man in the league.

Doubt this happens, but a thought.

That's correct. Like April or May.
He's an RFA with Denver.

I love Wilson, too, BUT......

Davis is most likely a one year rental. Hard to say for sure
with the Cavs paying the tab. Is he looking for one more contract?
Denver will probably match our offer to Wilson.
We have nothing that they need in a trade short of our BIGCATS (ain't happening).
It would have to be a three way. Maybe, but doubtful.
So, substitute Nash and put Shump in the 2 hole
and get ready to rumble.

Davis got another year after this on CLE's dime. That means baring a really bad injury or Steve Nash coming, BDiddy probably with Knicks for 2 years. And why not

"Davis got another year after this on CLE's dime."

That's what I said, Martin.

It is my understanding that he signed on with us for only one year.
To me, that tells me that he MAY be keeping his options open...
and MIGHT be looking for a multiyear deal with someone else at more $$.
Hard to say. Personally, I don't think that BDiddy being here for two years is that probable.

Hypothetically, let's fast forward to next October. Who would you rather have starting at PG...Nash or BDiddy? And why?

Wilson Chandler is an RFA.

But what a lot don't consider is the fact that when he finally gets out of his contract from China around February, he can accept a Qualifying Offer from Denver for the remaining season, and then become an unrestricted FA in 2012.

At that point we can offer him the MLE and just sell him on the idea of coming back to NY, being our 6th man for years to come, with the promise of a big pay day for his value in at least 2 years time when we get his Early Bird rights.

Still a really tough sell though cause there's a lot of teams with cap space in 2012 and I think Wilson will be offered at least $9-10M starting.

It's a pipe dream, but the above is likely our only shot at ever bringing him back.

We also may be better off using the MLE split between Nash and Baron, and then using the bi-annual exception to get a cheaper backup 3/4 than Wilson.

No you didn't. You said he was looking to sign a long term deal, not stick with NY for another.

To me, it tells my that NY is the one keeping their options open and if BDiddy doesn't want the minimum next year, move over for Nash.

^^^^ Agree with this except he won't get out until early Spring 2012.
I DO think that he wants to be here and the talk of going back to Denver is just subterfuge.

No, Martin...this is what I said. Read my post.

"Davis is most likely a one year rental. Hard to say for sure

"To me, it tells my that NY is the one keeping their options open and if BDiddy doesn't want the minimum next year, move over for Nash."

^^With regard to your second thought, you MAY be right about that.

Answering my own question of Baron Davis or Steve Nash in 2012 (if given the choice),
I'd take Nash because of his success and relationship with Amare.

that would be cool, having 2 Chandlers that I really like on the Knicks roster...
If Chandler isn't willing to commit to Denver long term, I don't see why they wouldn't think about trading him at the deadline?
Does it have to be a sign and trade? or can it be a sign and trade?

Would you still trade for Chandler for the qualifying offer, giving him a chance to screw us and walk?
While we could offer him the most money, he isn't max material....
and
I am not sure if he will just stick it to us for the hell of it.
but
We would have his bird rights? So we could be the next Lakers/Dallas in terms of payroll if he is getting 8-9mill?

Nick Young is slightly better offense with less defense but fits better at the SG? He is looking for the same amount, although we wouldn't be able to sign him at that price.

This is exactly right. I think we only keep Davis if we can't get Nash. There is a good chance we sign Nash with the mid level then either Grant Hill or Marcus Camby with the bi annual depending on need. I also think Shumpert slides into the starting SG in year-two and Fields becomes the 6th man.

Don't we already have a problematic 2 who disappears at times? Why do we need a proven commodity of that quality?

I'm against all Wilson talk unless he could contractually guarantee that this time around, he'd completely chew and swallow DLee before the playoffs start.

Humbly thanking God that there's no way to get Gallo back. Or Felton. Or Mozgov....alright maybe Moz...nice backup.

There are many factors this year, some of which we have no control over, some things we have to keep an eye on, we have to make try to make the best decisions, and counter our opponents moves from now to the off seasons...

1) there really are so many talented veterans next year, its hard to say which route we will go at this point. There are many factors that will lead to our decisions next summer

2) how we do/mesh throughout the season and playoffs

3) how Iman and our younger players develop

a) Shump Shump
1)Iman will he be a star in the making, that some of us believes he will be
2)is he a SG, PG, or either or both on the offensive end? can he set up the team compared to BD or another PG, good facilitator?, can he post up?, can he shoot mid/long range?
3)is he a lock down defender? if so, at what positions, is he better with PGs or SGs or even SFs and how he does on the other positions?
a)does he guard Lebron or Wade better?
b)he does he matchup vs the different types of PGs, big Combo, natural PGs, scoring/shooting comboPGs
1)COMBO big PGs Rose, WestBrook, Wall,
2)Natural PGs in CP3, Deron,

4) jorts/jordan, TD, Balkman, Fields, Green/Hunter?, Novak?
1) who has value in the deadline and next summer, who is replaceable, how these guys continue to develop, fit in, and are part of our future?

4) if we pull any trades/acquisitions and the 2.5m*if its a 2 year deal player or team* from to deadline

a)) Fields is a UFA in the end of this year, from what I read by some of the members here, we could only use our MLE next year to retain?
1) however, do we have the ability to match an offer like Clippers did with Deandre Jordan, or only because they were under the cap?

5) if we have the ability to attract players at a discount, if so, in which positions I believe we will have 3 exemptions to use next year
KG and Ray Allan as example

a) I hope, our players wont be ****y and be very respectful towards the league even if we lose games. We want to respect of the league/players This could be the difference % FA's
1)in attracting a veteran FA, if opponents like/respect our team/staff/coach, it would increase our chances. I don't want to be a hated team like the Heat last year, they
were hated by the league and fans. Right now, Boston has the dual of KG and Allan. Although they aren't young, they take good care of their body and would fit right in
many teams. In the East alone, I could think of 2 teams that could probably attract them with a good or better % than us.

b) Bulls/Nets In the east alone, It would be tough if they joined the either team, assuming Dwight/Deron are united, and they would fit right in and would probably start on those
teams. With their amnesty clause, lower salary as well. I expect Deng or Boozer to be amnestied next year for the Bulls. Those teams can offer a starting spot plus more
money than us. If KG is added to either team, especially the Nets, are we still the best Trio at the Center, PF, SF?

6) how other players in the league preform affects who we would target

a) for instance if Boston has a bad year, we can expect KG/Allen would look to go to a team to compete for, very possible in a package together
b) which players still have fuel in their tank, we have to be able to tell what would be affected by injury vs age/loss of game *Nash* *Duncan*
c) there will still be amnesty targets in the following year again, can we find another gem?

7) how our "all stars and stars" look in a brutal shortened season with injuries/health
a) its really hard on the body with a regular season with 82 games but after the lockout this season would be even tougher. I know these guys are pros and but ic this season
having lower value than a regular one.

8) who our coach will be for next year, Dantoni resigns or Phil Jackson seems to be the only 2 candidates at this point

a) The PG situation, whoever the coach prefers is probably the biggest emphasis, with the development of our players, our current PGs, and ALL THE ABOVE factors in on this decision
1) Nash, Baron Davis, Felton, Mo Williams, Iman, TD, Bibby, Billups, Kidd, Foye, Sessions, there are many PGs out there to think about? Are we searching for a back up or starting?
a) what will we expect from our PG whether its a backup role or starting role, which skills would he be better in
1) PnR 1st? Shooter 2nd, defense 3rd, facilitating?
b) how does Baron Davis fit it in,
1) how his production with his health and age, what is he looking to resign at?, do we have any PGs willing to take a pay cut?
2) he can be a good facilitator, passer, and does he take bad shots?
a) is he a good mentor? can he play accept and play a backup role?

9) Looking at how Cuban, Lakers, Dallas, Orlando, Portland changed after the new CBA

a) Dolan has a lot of money, but a lot of these teams have been known to be willing to spend as well. If the wrong decisions are made, with a couple bad luck with injuries, it
could greatly cripple our cap and profits *its still a business* Mark Cuban and Lakers in general, have been willing to go over the cap and pay the luxury tax.
1) It looks although, they have changed with moves of Odom, Tyson Chandler, its sign of how money can affect our cap and decisions in the future
a) I believe the revenue sharing with the tax, has changed the make up of the decisions owners/GMs now have to face

10) Keeping a reminder to our Coaching, medical staff, players, and adding ways to prevent injury, staying conditioned, and the right treatment to preserve our players

a) I think all aspects of the staff and players need to understand and be reminded the beating that these players are taking and acknowledge the risk, ways to prevent
overuse/injuries/fatigue. Sometimes this might even mean lowering our % to win games, but we have to understand our players healthy for the playoffs is more important than
home court advantage, as long as we get in to some extent....
1) we should have have a whole new staff in helping our players do things to help: decrease injury, stay conditioned, treatments to recover, and with physical therapy
hiring a ex player as assistant coach that physically understands the beating, with a manager for payroll to use for equipment and this staff
2) having a player like Kurt Thomas, Camby, or someone that understands how to prepare, treat, advice our players bodies during a lockout shortened season
a) some younger guys, didn't have as much problems during the last lock out, but a older vet would understand it more, having a coach, and another player/would be great
3) New staff includes a whole new department, with
1)a player that went through a shortened season,
2)coaching, a coach that can give advice
3)management*for payroll and budget* to work with this new department
4)yoga/pilates/ gym trainer
5)medical staff and physical therapy *we have a players *camby* that have said our medical staff doesn't do a good job, mixed with the history of some of our players
injuries in the past years, I think this is something we should look in to during this shortened season
a) a nutritionist, eventually the body will need supplements/pain killers, and eating the right things to allow them to have the energy, recovery, and allow the player to
understand the benefits of eating right
b)training: yoga, pilates, core training, gym exercises, stamina/legs/lungs, Knee/Back/ankles to strengthen,
c) stress relief for our coaches and players in physical and mental
1) Physical therapy
a) equipment/products, massuese, acupuncture, icing/heat treatment, stretching/yoga, and whatever else

1) Physical therapy
a) equipment/products, massuese, acupuncture, icing/heat treatment, stretching/yoga, and whatever else

with the Cavs paying the tab.
