Maybe this point has already been made -- I haven't seen it and it just occurs to me:

Turning Chauncey into Chandler means

Will, Danilo, Felton, Timofey, 1st rnd pick (likely mid to late)

for

Melo, Chandler, Balkman.

I didn't like the deal last year, but I do now!

i agree, it was a great turn around that no one expected, but as much as we improved, it wouldn't have happened until there was an amnesty clause.
On top of it, Dallas had to be willing to let go of Chandler.
Chandler also wanted to be here over other options.
Im glad it worked out but I still don't think it was a fair trade.

Look at what Cp3 was given up for and compare it back to our trade...

Don't 4get Denver went from being over the luxury tax to being way under
SAVING MILLIONS like 30? + tax so closer to 40m

Im glad we came back looking as good as we do right now though....

I wonder how the team would do with adding Chandler alone without Melo
if Cp3 forces his way over, we might have been able to have him
here as well instead...
and signing Chandler straight up or adding a Center, knowing Centers were available this year.
I think that was Walsh's plan C or E....

don't forget we also had to include Anthony Randolph. who we had to trade David Lee for. who we had to trade Nazr "Key to the Deal" Mohammed for.

so really it was:

Latrell Sprewell, Keith Van Horn, Nazr Mohammed, Malik Rose, David Lee, Anthony Randolph, Gallo, Chandler, Mozgov, Felton, Billups, 5 first round picks, 10 second round picks

for

Melo, Amare and Chandler

Being even more telling if you listed out who those picks turn in to.

I think we would have been under the cap and been able to sign Chandler without the Melo deal. We didn't need to get Chauncey to get Chandler.

In the end nothing we gave up was better than what we have now. We used to worry about picks that turned into guys like Tyrus Thomas. No matter what in the end it's hard to imagine that we could do much better than STAT, Melo and Tyson. Also we still end up with several of our own picks as key parts of the rotation. We still have TD, Fields, Iman, Jorts and Jordan. All recent picks for this team.

So the team is full of in their prime stars and up and coming young draft picks. Can't really ask for much more just a few months after the deal. We just need to add a couple of role players to the mix.

its more like, we really got lucky we got Tyson Chandler.
all the above had to fall in place, before we got Melo.

if it wasn't for the amnesty clause, what do you think our year would look like?

I hope Jorts and Jordan work out but they both have a ways to go in my opinion. TD and Fields are good but they are in NY because Denver wanted other guys.

If you get a star you have to trade assets. The Knicks gave a lot for Melo but got the best player in the deal by far. We dealt a lot but we retained young talent (Fields and Douglas) and flexibility. It was always a great deal, people were just looking for a perfect deal.

Jorts is already showing coach he can help off the bench. Of Course as a rook Jorts has things to learn, but from everything that's been said about his performance so far he can play. Jordan is an unknown right now. I hope Jordan can develop into a useful player, cuz his size and length are legit.

As for TD and Fields, let's remember that TD is a developing guard and so is Fields. We gave Denver the more developed players we had and the only 7'er we had. Do you think that means TD and Fields can't develop into good players just cuz Gallo and Chandler were more developed already? It's no indicator of just how good either TD or Fields can be. Gallo was a high draft pick and Chandler had more experience than either TD or Fields. This says nothing about the prospects for just how good TD or Fields can be.

Exactly. We gave up Curry's cap space, Anthony Randolph, and a boatload of picks as part of that deal also. We also gave up an excellent backup C in Turiaf to bring in Chandler.

If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

listen, I am very happy with the core of this team right.
Everything seemed work itself out whether who ripped who off, but that doesn't mean that we still didn't get push around by Denver.
Very true, if we never would have got ripped off, and not for the amnesty, and not for Dallas not resigning Chandler, we never would have this core.

Like look back in this Cp3 deal

Eric Gordon * Gallo *
Aminu * top draft pick but not even near Chandlers shoes * , lets give him Randolph
1 1st round draft pick wolves, is it = to Knicks pick and 2 GS 2nd round? probably off a little

Think if we would have just traded for Melo. I admit the pick isn't nearly = to Clippers.
But I think Cp3 improves a team better than Melo as well.

Felton has been the reason why SSOL didn't work.

At Felton's salary > vs Billups age

so why did we pay all those extra pieces for? Balkman? Shelden?

Eric Gordon is better than Gallo. Minnesota's unprotected 1st rounder is more valuable than our 1st rounder and two 2nd rounders. Aminu is around the same level as Felton or Chandler. By my count two of the three best assets in those trades belonged to the Clippers. And, it might be the two best assets depending on the Minnesota 1st rounder. And by the way, the same could be said for the Deron Williams trade. Derrick Favor, Golden State's 1st rounder, and Gallo were the three best assets moved in those trades and only one of them was given up by the Knicks.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come
