i get the sense, these new rules and taxes make a huge difference. Revenue sharing, w/e it is, one wrong step and you can lose millions.
Everyone seems to want to have their salaries down.
Even, us, after acquiring Tyson Chandler.
I believe we had money left over. Unless we need it to sign our rookies, Iman, Harrallson, Jordan and his buyout*if we had to do that it wasn't worth it*.
But Turiaf + Billups makes 16m+ and Knicks were at under 60m. So Chandler starts at 12.5 ish?
Cap is about 58m?
We should have about 4.5m and the 2.5m exemption?
Can we not go over our cap space to sign 1st rounders or just 2nd rounders? Or Neither?
I mean, it would just make sense, for us to try to use that cap space up, if we had that option?
But I noticed a lot of teams, are serious about not overpaying.
Even Cuban, for him not to pay Chandler, its so unlike Cuban?
And if the above is true and we did have an opportunity to use that 4.5m? It would be unlike Dolan.
If we just gave up this opportunity to spend and finish acquiring depth and role players, something can be steaming...
We went from building on a playoff contender to finals contender over a night with Chandler.
Since we went to WIN NOW mode, I would think the Knick's would look to acquire depth and finish our role players/bench.
Even if it was at the cost of 2nd rounders, assuming if we can go over the cap to sign Iman.
Even if we can't and the buyout of Jerome Jordan eats up our cap, we could have sign minimum deals after we use up all the cap space.
Only 3 possible reasons, it could lead to for doing this Knicks...
1) Amnestying Billups and going under the cap, we can't sign our draft picks(although i am not sure about 1st rounders, Iman)
we wanted to be able to add 2nd rounder, Josh Harrellson and Jordan, to learn from this Tyson Chandler, and play a role and practice to be our future centers.
4 year's just isn't a lot of time.
2) The Knicks are thinking about restructered deals of Melo, Amare, and possibly Chandler, to sign a big FA this off season. While it won't be enough
for a max player, it can be another player that can be a big force with this squad. Maybe a KG or Duncan like talent?
3) I am over thinking it, the new CBA, with revenue sharing, and the luxury tax can make spending $ turning to from making profit to losing $ being a step or 2.
However, if it's the 3rd reason, I don't see why we wouldn't resign Shawne Williams with some of that money...
And with 2 more exceptions to possibly use, which we never heard the Knick's even mention about spending or using?
The Bi Annual exemption, was that used for Mosgov last year?
We have 3 roster spots left, without the signing of Shawne Williams.
We could use a shooter, a G/PG, a backup SF/PF.
With Barea *of course wolves would sign him, they only has 2 pg's this seasons without him.
Anthony Parker is resigned by Cleveland as well.

With Redd, having a trouble history with injuries, I would prefer Peja. He has great size and is a reliable shooter.
The last couple of years and last year with Dallas, he could play a role from 20+ minutes, 5-10minutes, or no minutes at all.
He can help space the floor, play multiple roles with minutes, and has great size.
While I wouldn't call him a good defender, he is a 6'10 big boy, with great range, and length.
With limited minutes, he can probably guard, BACKUP PG's to even SFs with his size or undersized PF
I am not asking him to guard starters, limited minutes with backup's....
He is a high bball iq player that still know's his role, we should look at him for the minimum...
Ak47
He also has a good basketball IQ and is a team player. He has great versatility and was once a lock down defender.
While Tyson Chandler is the combination of size, strength, quickness for size, some agility, and length at the center.
Ak47 is the combination basically the same combination as Chandler except for strength. He would be a great fit for this system as well.
He is one of the better shot blocking, passing, rebounding, steals at SF/PF. He can be our poor man's Marion
I don't think he has the quickness to guard the SF's as much anymore but he can play some minutes from the SF, PF, and the Center.
At this point of his career, he probably would be better suited guarding PF with his length and quickness. But he can contribute a little bit of everything.
He didn't play many games last year due to injuries, even for the past couple of seasons I think. But at the price of 2.5m at best, its a good investment.
He can play the Jeffries role
He would probably be out best shot blocking after Chandler and he can play with him together as well.
I would like to lock in both above players, if they have interest in coming with 2/3 of our roster spots.....
If Baron Davis, clear's waivers, which he didn't even get amnestied yet. However, with 4 possible PG's and the resigning of Parker @ SG, they would either look to
amnesty BDiddy or trade Sessions or Gibson.
For the 3rd spot, there is Shawne Williams, we all know what he is about. He's played in the system before, if we can't get Ak47, I would love the idea of having him back.
He can probably play some backup SG as well as the SF, and PF, with the SF, being the natural position.
Like I said, I would look for an athletic rebounder/shot blocker in case Chandler gets hurt.
Sean Williams being a player that is athletic and has the ability to play PF/C.
With this team, I don't believe he would be a headcase. With all these veteran players and Championship Caliber team, it's a great opportunity for him to earn a new contract.
He is still young and has a taste and some experience in the league when he started for the Nets.
We have big bodies in Jorts and Jordan, however, neither is an athletic type.
Jordan is long but he looks a little too weak to me to play a center. He isn't quick enough to play the PF or play together with Chandler as well.
I think Fesenko, isn't really a shot blocker. If you watch the video's on him, he doesn't get much lift.
His strength I think is his ability to score with him being so unorthodox, with good size. He isn't a pretty player or face, by any means but he can play a nice backup position.
Delonte West is a pretty good shooter and defender as well. I am not sure how he play's the pick and roll but with limited minutes he can still contribute.
I want to add players that play with the TEAM concept and can play limited and bigger roles when called upon. I wouldn't want to take a big risk with a big headcase.
However, with limited roles, and a team full of veterans, I would give some players a chance to be turn things around with a contender.
I think a deep team with good chemistry starts by the coaching and the talent around them. This is why I would first look to sign Peja and Ak47.
They are team players, are coachable, and fill in a need we have. Peja could be possibly obtained for the veteran minimum and is probably the best shooter left in FA.
Ak47 is just a nice luxury to have, while he has some question mark's about his injuries. We aren't looking to pay him a whole lot and he isn't exactly old.
He was one of the better versatile defenders in his prime and I believe he still has some gas in him.
We can offer these types of player's an opportunity to contend and contribute. We became an unattractive team to being a high courted team, overnight, with Tyson Chandler
and win now mode. Adding the right players, style's, and locker room presence can change the atmosphere.
If thing's don't work out with Delonte West or Sean Williams, we can simply cut them. But I think they have the talent to contribute and we aren't asking them to play
a starter or 6th type role. This is a good opportunity for them to turn things around and compete with a nice core.
