Faced with a circus surrounding the Dwight Howard negotiations, the Nets are closing in on top free agent Nene Hilario, a league source told the Daily News.

Nene, who can either play power forward or center, is being offered a four-year deal worth $65 million, the source said, but could get the most money by re-signing with the Nuggets. After the Nets lost Tyson Chandler to the Knicks, they upped the offer for Nene, according to a source.

It’s unclear whether signing Nene would take the Nets out of the running for Howard, but as allegations of tampering began circulating Friday afternoon, it became clear that any transition for the Magic center wouldn’t be easy.


If this puts them out of the running for Howard I feel good about that. If they get Nene AND Howard, I don't feel so good about that. Although, Nene is no monster, it gives them a serious front court.

I gotta say, a front court of Nene and doesn't necessarily put fear in my heart. They'll score more, but there's rebounding will be weak. This assuming the Nets don't make any other moves.

Nene and Lopez is a good froncourt. With Deron that team has some potential. Chandler was a better fit for Knicks. Im excited! I like a good rivalry

Denver is ****ed. Half of their team is in China, and they lost their big FA. They are gonna suck this year. smh.

BTW did we just miss the beginning of the season and have 66 games so that owners could come back and overpay for marginal talent again? 65 million for Nene? a 29 year old oft injured Big man who's career RPG is 7.8?

Some of those same things could be said for Chandler except he is a serious defensive presence and helped his team win a ring. And thats a major difference.

I don't think that Orlando will wait to do a sign and trade after the season.

really, because neither of them rebound well. Nene is an overrated defender too

We still need to make a couple of additions to be fully title contenders.

depending on if the Knick's are still thinking about restructuring a deal to bring another star player in FA, if they can get
Amare
Melo
Chandler

to take less money but add another year.

It would be a big difference in what players we can look to acquire and could hinder our chances this year of winning.
But at the very least, the addition of Chandler alone, make's us contenders and not pretenders with just Amare/Melo.

Nene 40 60mil allow them Outlaw will be aminesty and still trade Lopez Petro 3 1st rounder for Howard and stay under the cap

that is a terrible deal, not close to fair value. Lopez is overrated and those picks, if they get Howard will not be anywhere near the top 10.

wait, I'm confused. I thought Denver had got the best of that deal & was filled with up & coming stars???
