Multiple league executives say the Knicks are now in the lead to land Tyson Chandler, jumping in front of the Warriors.

If the deal goes through, the Knicks use amnesty on Chauncey Billups and move Ronny Turiaf to make room for Chandler, sources say.

If Knicks amnesty Billups and move Turiaf, they could offer Chandler a four-year deal starting at about $14M.

this is the defensive center i've been praying for since Camby left.

a frontline of

Melo
Amare
Chandler

would be hands down the best in the league.

throw in a lockdown backcourt of Toney and Iman... not bad. Let Grant Hill play some point, even. or sign Jamaal Tinsley.

Please please please let this be true.

i dont think we can afford CP3 if we sign Chandler. That means CP3 is gone. If that is the case, having Chandler is best case scenario!

I would love him, that was why I was totally against extending Billup's contract to begin with. And most importantly for the Melo trade, just trade for Melo vs getting a bunch of players. If we just trade for Melo straight up I can't see why we had to give up that many assets.

Gallo, picks, one more player at best, and Curry's expiring.

As for Felton, he was playing as a top 10 pg and with a great contract. If he finished out the year the way he played after he got the SSL system, he could probably be traded for at the very least an expiring plus 1st round pick.

Are you people serious? Jumping for joy for this awful move?

$14 million a year for Tyson ****ing Chandler? That is god-awful.

We are going to waste our amnesty on a guy in the final year of his contract who can still contribute just for the right to overpay an injury prone center? This is Isiah-esque. I think he is back. Unofficially, Isiah is back and destroying the team again.

$14 million a year for Chandler? Oh dear Lord. Donnie is turning over in his wheelchair.

welcome to the breaking news world of twitter. no articles yet. but very reputable bball source Ken Berger is the guy tweeting it. i'm sure he'll have a post up about it soon.

seems like a lot of moving pieces - they'd have to find a taker for Turiaf, for starters.

Will be interesting to see if GSW sweetens offer to trump Knicks, but 'Dubs have have a limit and it may not matter anyway.

Sources say Golden State's offer for Chandler was not as robust as the 5-year, $60M that's been reported.

for me it's a good move on several accounts.

OK, it's a given that Chandler has been injury prone in the past... but, if you gonna win a championship, you HAVE to have a big C. who else is out there that the Knicks can get?

I thought he was the final piece for Dallas in the Championship puzzle.

He also compliments Amare and Melo PERFECTLY.

He can be traded as a HUGE chip next year if necessary... paging Howard.

Next year you spend the MLE on Nash to come off the bench.

The Mavs just won a championship, Cuban doesn't care about money and even HE doesn't want this guy at that price. C'mon. No justification for that type of money to this guy. none at all.
