This a best-case FA scenario in my opinion. Hill provides leadership and an upgrade for this season as the SG. Fields can be properly groomed to eventually take this place and be a great 6th man for the time being. A line-up of Billups, Hill, Anthony, Stoudemire, and Jeffries is a smart, talented lineup. Add an upgrade at center and this team can become a title contender, but even without one, is still a team capable of getting deep into the playoffs. We aren't finding a center that can have the same impact as Hill, so i would be very excited with the move.

In the short term, he's exactly what the Knicks need. Granted, the KNicks need a few things, but what he brings to the table fits in perfectly with what the team is trying to do

He is a SF. Can he play SG?

He would be an awesome acquisition on a 1 year contract.

Shawne Williams is arguably more important, but as long as you get them both and pick up just a live body at center then that should complete the roster.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

You can argue Williams' worth to this team, but Hill is a top-10 FA who brings defense, veteran leadership, and intangibles that Williams doesn't bring. The only thing on Williams' side is youth and the spot up 3-pointer. Hill is a player almost any contending team would love to have and he would probably be the best signing of any of the contending teams this off-season. Hopefully it works out because adding him would be more than i could have ever imagined this FA period.

I really love the deal. I just hope we sign another big. I dont want Jared Jeffries to be our staring Center. Then I dont want to rely on Turiaf to be healthy especially with the number of games this guys will be playing. It would be great to see who we sign, but Hill no doubt improves our defense. He plays defense beautifully, he dosent rely on speed or athleticism he relys on his smarts. He can improve the game of Fields and Melo a whole lot. It going to be great having Hill and Billups as the veterans of the team. These two guys will command a lot of respect and it will benefit Fields and Shumpert a whole lot.

i would like the deal quite a bit.

but i don't think grant can play too much shooting guard.

expect a crunch time lineup of:

billups
fields or iman or toney
grant hill
melo
amar'e

i really worry our lack of bigs is going to hurt melo and amar'e, especially in a compressed schedule.

that said, i still think it's a great move. grant hill put up basically the same numbers as wilson last year, at better efficiency. though i think if grant is here, shawne williams will not be. but grant is more of a playmaker than shawne. though shawne was one of our better lowpost defenders (sadly).

I would just worry that the injuries that haven't crept back up would come back this season. That's just the jaded Knicks fan in me though.

Other than that, I think the plan would be to start him at the 2 and have Landry play 20-25 mpg off the bench.

Billups/Douglas
Hill/Iman/Fields
Melo/Williams
STAT/???
Jeffries/Turiaf

Still need to get a big man. Nd I wouldn't mind grabbing Tinsley either.

well, apparently it's not decided yet. hate to say it, but i trust sam amick more than berman. it'd be nice to get hill though. thankfully, this won't drag out as long as the CP3 saga promises to.

Source close to Grant Hill says he has not made a decision and is not close to any agreement. Being reported he's leaning toward NY.

grant hill is a quality defender.

what the knicks really need is someone who can protect the paint and cover for amar'e. but unless jeff foster or kurt thomas has a change of heart, there's no one really in the knicks budget that fits in reality.

He's like 40 with a bad foot injury in a year when we will cram 66 games into 4 months...how many 4 games in 5 nights will he be ready for this season? or Nash for that matter...And he not a quality defender..He is slow at this point in his career...

He will likely play like 25 mins per game. His position is not one that we have O depth at, he will be a great teacher for both Iman and Fields while still being able to bring it. As far as his ankle, there has been nothing wrong with it since 2006-2007 season. He does not have "a bad foot injury". He is an incredibly skilled player, Hill and Chamberlain are the only two players in league history to lead their teams in points, rebounds and assists per game three times.
