Yes, we give up Fields and TD ( youth ) for defense and 3pt shooting. Frye would allow Dtat and Melo to operate in the paint and can spot up for 3's. Pietrus and Hill can play lock down defense on the perimeter. I can even imagine SHUMP / PIETRUS / HILL on the floor together against Miami !!

the New York Suns? How are we going to play defense with Frye/Amare/Nash?
How will we grab rebounds?

I wouldn't do this unless we sign a MLE worthy center...

Ugh, no thank you. We would go from bad to worse in terms of play AND age.

...who could also guard the other three positions as well. Jeez, is there three softer defensive people starting in the league?

I would become a Miami Heat fan if this were to happen.

Its one thing to gut the roster for CP3, another for a soon to be over the hill PG who will be a free agent at the end of this year

phoenix would never agree to this trade.

hilarious to see guys in here acting like NY is losing this trade. pietrus and frye are better than anything on our roster past stat and melo and billups. nash is miles ahead of billups.

geez, guys.

for the MLE, for the Knicks, especially for 1 year, I have these targets

Dalembert
Humphries
Spencer Hayes

all of these guys will require probably a max MLE money to get. I would prefer going this route, if JJ is the only kind of talent we can acquire.

I am not willing to pay Foster the full MLE for one year for his services.

Then it will probably be

Battier
Prince
Butler

I can't see any of these guys taking a 1 year deal either. But I would have them rated higher than Hill.
then

Grant Hill
Anthony Parker

Truth is, that might be the only other reason he will be available to us. He was great last year and a important player the past 2-3 years in the Suns.
I think he still has game in him. While I would rather spend the Full MLE for a legit center, I wouldn't mind paying Grant Hill.

What is this bug everyone has about Nash...And you want to give up young pieces??...I wouldn't trade Fields for Nash, mano y mano...We traded Rob Strickland for Mo Cheeks..Strickland went on to play 15 more years...

WHY R U OPENING OLD WOUNDS?!

We had Mark Jackson & Rod STrickland at the same time!!! ANd then in a flash we had neither of them.

Rod Strickland became a journeyman, but still racked up enough assists to be one of the all time leaders #9. SMH. Knicks fans have been suffering for a long time.

Just say no to steve nash

I am not sure how 2 year contract work. I see some players on multiple years but this isn't the case for Fields.
He has a 2 year deal and will be a free agent the end of this seasons.
At some point, if this is true, if we can get good value out of him, we have to consider moving him.

In general Billups and one more asset for Nash is a good deal for us, but i wouldn't want to do a huge trade like this. Plus i believe Nash will come as a FA.

why? A 1 year rental for Nash by giving up an asset is a good thing? To what end?

isn't billups a one year rental at this rate? nash is a much better point guard for d'antoni (who might also be a one year rental)... billups can't run a pick and roll to save his life and obviously nash and amare have fantastic chemistry on the pick and roll.

It's cool in a one on one trade, but to give up Fields and Douglas for him? No, plus we are giving up our only big that can consistently play defense when he's on the court.

Billups is a 1 year rental... who we don't have to give up anything for. That's the difference.

Second, Nash sells tickets and is a fan fav or PHO, so he ain't going for just TD or Fields.

Third, Billups is a MUCH better defender.

Not sure that Billups can't run PnR, just hasn't worked it with Amare yet, that takes time.

It's not worth giving up an asset to get a hall-of-fame PG? We get him for a year and spend that year trying to convince him to stay. We'd be willing to offer him a longer, bigger contract than other teams and he'd make a lot of endorsement money. He comes out of it with dozens of millions more here than his next best option. I still prefer doing everything we can to get Paul and Okafor first though. We also need to give it time and see how this team does first. If the team this year looks like it did post-trade last year, then I'd be strongly in favor of getting Nash.
