Fourteen hours in. Hopefully they are making progress and have a sense of urgency.

I'm fairly confident that they're getting all the smaller issues hammered out. The way I see they were going to have to deal with them eventually and likely there's less of a gap between the parties on those issues. Once all of that is out of the way they can close the gap on the big issues and have a deal to present to the full owner and player contingents. I just want this crap to be over. Stern said the owners have scheduled meetings on Wed. and Thurs. so they may want to get as far as possible so they can have it voted on during the meetings. Just a guess of course.

Logic would dictate that with the marathon season an agreement would be worked out.

Bryant Gumble said Stern was like a plantation owner. Fucking media.

Logic would also dictate that if they can't get it done with this much time and effort time will pressure one side to compromise (Aka: "Cave") to get a season in.

Derek Fisher has gotten major compliments by Stern and others as remaining cool. Stern knows how to agitate effectively to get people to lose their cool. Its what lawyers do.

I love that someone still thinks any of this has anything to do with logic.
I wonder if Stern thinks Bryant Grumble is like a carpetbagger.
Neither side seems to care about the season. Even if one side does "cave", what are we going to get for the first three weeks but a parade of people to the IR.

Did Stern actually pass a bar exam anywhere? That's a rhetorical question, I really don't want to know.

Stern is hardly the hack some think he is. The man is not paid to be liked, he is considered the best in the business because he is ruthless and gets the job done.

The failure if the previous CBA is not on him as some would think. It is on the owners wo agree or not agree..

What commish is liked? Goodall? Bettman? Selig? Nobody likes any of them, why should Stern be any different. In fact, as long as he is on the job Im sure nobody has nice things to say about him except he is very good at what he does.

I don't like him, but I respect him.

Is Gumble out of line? Is race really a factor this time around? Or is his HBO ratings falling and he needs the attention?

I used to like his show, but cancelled HBO like 5 years ago.

This doesn't sound good.

RT @IraHeatBeat: Can't help but think that this is all a we-tried charade by NBA, before getting back to squeezing, then crushing union

No indication of progress yet. But continue to hear from sources that some owners prefer to miss season rather than accept bad deal.

Can't be a lot of owners suggesting such a thing. The Grizzlies are already getting heat from the city about not having any games to help pay for the arena. These teams have to also consider the city and economies that they support. That's the whole reason that the Mediator was brought in. The NBA not having a season will adversely effect a lot of local economies.

no they dont. They arent in control. Sorry... the Grizz will tell Memphis we want games to. Blame the players, blame MDA, blame blame blame

If nothing is clear one thing is... the owners are committed to a radical overhaul of the CBA. This doesnt look like tweaking.

Did Hokey lose a whole season before the hard cap? I forget...

the only side of me that wouldn't care if the season is canceled is the side of me that HATES the restrictive nature of the current CBA's approach to trades. if they cancel the season, but get rid of the whole dollar-for-dollar matching on trades, then maybe i'd be less pissed. i honestly think the whole salary matching aspect to trades in the NBA really messes things up for everyone. there are tons of great deals to be made that get all jacked up, or never happen, because salaries have to match.
