To be fair though, the NFL and NBA is not an apples to apples compairison. NBA teams have their own cable channels that they may have invested a fair amount of money in, while the NFL teams games are all nationally televised.

and really, the idea of competition or parity in the NBA is a pipe dream - it's always been about dynasties. you get one of the transcendent talents in the sport, you are going to be a top 5 team no matter what. it's always been that way. revenue sharing can't give all 30 teams a lebron james or dwight howard or what have you.

I don't even understand what the owners idea of competitive balance is. Do they want every single team to compete for a championship? If so, I agree with you, it's never happening. However, I would like to see the end of the ".500 and less teams making the playoffs" era. If it were ten to fifteen years ago, this years Knicks team wouldn't have even sniffed the playoffs. Not post trade at least.

It all boils down to who drafts better and has along range plan. Something the knicks don't do very well.

I know there are paralells to the 70's when there were no destiny and like 6 differnt teams won. Its said it was the worst decade but it might be that white america was dealing with a very black NBA and many players were having drug problems.

The Legend knick team with of the early 70's is what bonded me to the team. And still all these years I am followoing them. When teams win it creates a wonderful memory and a bond with its fans. Spread that out you start to build on the brand.

If teams can't turn it around quickly then they die.

Perhaps more rivalry would exist if there were more meaningful games.

Level the field and perhaps the greatest thing in NY hoops would be a strong rivalry with the Knicks and Nets!

And if Lebron and his superfriends were to go on a multi year binge of winning it could create a negative buzz and fan apathy. We not talking Mike and Bulls! They had respect.

In the end, im not really rooting for either but in favor of what makes the league stronger. We have gone 37 years doing it with great player freedom and despite the starphuch attempts NY hoops came up empty. Maybe if the ecnomoic advantages are for legit for a player to be in NY we then gain some advantage that way.
