Big Knicks workout tomorrow with Marshon Brooks, Josh Selby, Jordan Hamilton, Darius Morris, Jeremy Tyler, Nikola Vucevic From Chad Ford.

Also, Biyombo is supposed to fly into NY and meet with the Knicks. I think any of these guys could be taken by the Knicks on Thursday. Can't wait.

For most of the players on that workout list, this is the Knicks second look. Gives you a good idea who's in their final draft pool

seems like a reasonable conclusion

At the end of the day, i see their top choices as Fredette, Thompson, and Biyombo if any of them happen to be available. With that being unlikely, Brooks, Vucevic, and Hamilton should be highest on that list with their abilities to contribute immediately. While we need to get this pick right, we can't take a chance on a long term prospect. We need someone who can fit into the rotation, and maybe start right away, as we have a 4 year window to really get this thing right. We can't have a player sitting for 2 years of Melo and Stat's prime trying to develop no matter how great the upside is.

I guess they like Jeremy Tyler since they are bringing him back for a 2nd workout.

I hope the Knicks go with upside.

i don't think you waste too much time on smokescreen like that. Perhaps they float "target" player to paper's, but you don't bring in players you don't want.

in poker it's called a semi-bluff... you hope everyone else misreads your hand, but if they don't, hopefully you luck into plan b. I know that's pretty far-fetched conspiracy theory... just seems so brazen to get everyone that interests you in for one workout

Every year people claim smoke screen and every year it gets proven false.

Selby vs Morris
Brooks vs Hamilton
Tyler vs Vucevic

3 on 3

i love that they're bringing in Darius Morris, Nikola Vucevic, Marshon Brooks and Biyombo again. that would be my top 4 of guys who would reasonably be available when we pick.

if Morris and Vucevic are on the same team, they'll dominate.

I also like those players at 17.

If we go for Vucevic with the 17th pick. And Jeremy Tyler is still available if we pick up a 2nd pick, late first round.
We would need other bodies to play that role. A long, lanky, athletic body like Dalembert. Jordan can be a poor mans Chandler.

Sean Wiliams * Dleague* fill in a poor mans Dalembert
Jordan
Greg Foster

these are very obtainable players and are probably great cost efficient players.

Would you guys rather go for
Tyler?

Shumpert
Morris
Jenkins
Nolan Smith

I wouldn't mind going after them both if they are available.
But we would need a PG as well for our future, most importantly, a year under Billups as a mentor would be very crucial and beneficial in the development of a PG.
Especially Jenkins, a players skills set and game is very similar to Billups.

Or a physical freak like Shumpert? He has has the size to play SG and the skills of the PG. If he reaches anywhere near his ceiling, he would be so nasty.
I would like to see him develop in to a lock down defender pairing him alongside TD and a shot blocking/defensive center. A player of this caliber is very useful these days, because the league has made PGs even more crucial than previous years. As a GM, it is important to build a team with a concept to stop Miami with great defensive players and have the ability to stretch the floor and do what is needed traditionally from the PG, SG, SF.
And bench players that can also do the same. Shumpert has is one of the rare gems that has the physical tools that have these skill sets and physical size.

Players like

Rose
Westbrook
Roy *prior to injury*
Wall

are starting a new position, in the combo guard, distancing from traditional PGs like

Stockton
Cp3
Deron Williams

and combo guards like

Iverson
Monta Ellis
Baron Davis
Jamal Crawford

Morris and Nolan Smith both have great size and can create and have the skills as a PG, with the edge going to Morris.
They both can be good defenders, however, I don't think either can coexist with TD without being a mismatch.

IF Cleveland selects Irving, it can be very cost efficient to get a player like Sessions as well.
With the MLE, I think role players at SG/SF, that can play defense, and hit a the 3 can be very obtainable in the league.

Pietrus
Grant Hill
Shannon Brown

JR Smith vs Marshon Brooks?

We have quite a few options, I really think we can bounce back this year and finish building our team by the summer of 2012.
I think Donnie would have done wonders if the stayed. I even wonder how he would have finished building the team with his blueprint prior to the Melo trade. We would have GS 2nd round this year I believe which would be very useful.

I agree, that list looks too close to who the list should be looking at. I hope we get a chance to take the Vuc. other than that I beleive that with a late pick we will get a pretty good player if we can buy 1.

I think they have to try to get two of those players, if you add Biyombo to the group that's working out tomorrow.

Well the obvious signal is that the Knicks are indeed looking to take 2-3 players in this draft. Why bring in players at the spots we have the clearest need if you aren't seriously considering using this draft to restock the supporting cast? PG, SG and C. Those are the holes we have on the roster and this would be the cheapest way to fill those spots. MAN would I love to be a fly on the wall in that workout!

Funny how most of us have been calling for these very players and here we go! I see no need to worry about the overt nature of this workout. Teams are gonna take who they want and when you're at 17 you're already picking from the best of the rest. This draft has talent into the 2nd rd. So I see no reason to worry about other teams knowing what we want to do.

Funny, looking at all of those names (excluding Jordan Hamilton who I haven't looked into at all), I would be happy taking any one of those players at 17. Let's hope we steal an extra pick or two.

Thursday's going to be a big night, I can't wait!

I usually advocate BPA, but Jordan Hamilton might fill a big need for us. He's 6'8" and has a great shot. Not to mention, he comes from University of Texas, and Rick Barnes did a good job with the last real tall SG he had (Kevin Durant). He only has an outside shot though and never met a shot he didn't like. That said, I think Melo and Amar'e have enough juice to straighten that problem out

I don't understand Hahn's point here. With that many players what kind of stock did he think we were putting into the workout? It's obvious that they want to make sure they have a good handle on all the possibilities, so they can have a contingency for any way the draft goes.

I take that most of these kids are at the least on the radar should things workout that they can't get a better player. Isn't that always the case?

We brought in Holiday for a second look a few years ago and took Hill, who I don't think we asked to come in a second time. Might not mean anything...then again it might mean a number of things.

Could mean that our draft people have a difference of opinion over some of them.

Could also mean that we are deciding whether one of them is worth trading up for.

And who knows, one or more can be there as a smoke screen, although the simple fact that we might actually feel each of them is worth it at 17, provides a natural "smoke screen" in a way, because it gives the appearance that we have a large pool of players we will consider.

Some of these guys are also there because Donnie still has to decide whether he is going to seriously attempt to buy a late first or a #2, and he things one or more of them will be there later in the draft.

As is usually the case with drafts, especially when you have a #1, it should be an interesting night.
