Sitting in bed with right leg elevated iced up and pissed! Playing Tennis last nite and was up 5-2 in first set about to close it out when "Pop"! Did my left a few years back and its 6 week recover before you play. Can't put my heal down at all today. Can't drive and had to cancel an out of town meeting.

I have been playing 3-4 times a week and stretching. I think a small stomach ailment kept my normal fluid intake down and I might have been more dehydrated than I thought. It was a tougher match than the score. I never beat this guy but last nite decided to rush the net much more.

Im pissed cuz I only have been back on the courts two months and really have been getting so much better. Weekly clinics, 1 doubles match, 1 or two singles and one ball machine session has me feeling great.

As some of you know its been 18 months since my open heart surgery and joined a mens league which has been great!

Don't rush the recovery. Wimbledon can wait.

It surely suhhhhucks getting old. Actually being old is worse. I've got the permanently strained achilles, pinched nerve, the maladies of age. And I have to stretch so long before the game these days, I'm tired before I hoist my first brick.

I'm still shooting to be the oldest rookie in NBA history though. Damn you, JKidd, for keeping the dream alive.

Im only 50, been losing weight and gaining mobility. I have a full range serve motion with follow thru, it also carries you into the court and its more taxing on the legs than one thinks.

I have played against some dudes 10-15 older than me on doubles and they player the angles and kick ass! These guys have been playing their whole lives and are deceptive the way they play. They put a lot of junk on the ball and it works!

Thats my goal is to keep playing but I want to play hard, not finesse!

Thanks for the cheers! I appreciate it.

I joined this league as someone with very limited tennis talent and a mending chest with bone and muscle cut. I have rehabbed nice and decided to play a sport again. Basketball my first love is just too much and Tennis I like enough but never really got into. To do this I had to have humility to try, and often fail in competition. I set my own bar to measure success and in doubles match play I am 1-2. We won our second match and held my own and contributed. It was thrilling for me as I have not had any formal competition in 25 years!

I have played many informal matches and if on the road to getting better I get "taught" by a 65 year old then so be it. Doubles is not as demanding on the body as singles and these old dudes play like every day, and have for 30+ years. they are healthy, fit and having fun. I aspire to do that in 15 years.

I need to play smarter even in singles and not jump as much for high balls at the net.

Humility is a good thing. I know that I have to get beat to improve. And I am. I have beaten younger guys also.

Old guy kicks your ass with fundamentals you learn a thing or two. Take the lesson! THAT IS GOOD!

Played Golf for 20 years. Decided any game you can net add calories wearing loud clothing while drinking and smoking is fun but not healthy. Took up tennis and really enjoy it. Its not hoops, but my hoop days are long gone.

I might get back into golf again. don't miss it yet.

To me all sports are net calorie adds, because I play them from the other side if the TV! Only exception ( oddly enough) is golf. I can't play tennis, it was a rich man's sport when I was growing up in India. Just equipment and court fees were well beyond my means.

I picked up golf very late, year or two ago and I am really bad at it. But it's still fun because I play with a bunch of buddies at or near my level.

What age did you stop playing basketball at? I hear you about golf although I did enjoy it very much when I played in high school. I never was very good at it though.

So you don't play tennis because in India it was not accessable to you but you play golf now which you can't tell me was more accessable in India!

Public tennis courts are in so many parts and schools now it is almost as easy as playing basketball.

Public Golf course still has many costs associated with it not found in Tennis.

So Lowrey, since you bought it up, can you really tell me Golf is a sport or a game? Golf does require great skill and concentration.

Basketball does also, but can you sling beers, eat corn dogs and smoke cigars while playing basketball without your game degrading?

If you wore a heart monitor to measure your caloric burn and heart rate would you be in anyway comparing to a tennis match? Even doubles if done properly requires much movement off the ball to be in position. I never understood doubles until I started playing in a league and its like playing defense in basketball, gotta move your feet and be in position quickly.

Golf, only if your walking are you getting any benefit. Walking is not part of the game btw, you can take your dog for a walk. Walk to the store. Walking is walking (its good for you!) but Golf walking is not part of the game.

Play an two hours of competitive tennis and see how you feel.

Did you play golf in India?
