Thanks - listening now.

Stat mentioned lobbying Nash to come on over (jokingly)

LOL, was funny...

And repeating "defense" is the key.

I think Nash and Billups would be a pretty nice looking combo - Billups would get a lot of open looks with both of them on the court.

If Nash stays in shape, I could see him signing here for vet minimum after this contract for a year and chance at a chip. CP3/Deron are still a long shot.

that all depends with what is going to happen with this collective bargaining agreement. i think the desire of either two coming here isnt a question. however, if we have a hard cap, then kiss that scenario goodbye.

You mean the third max contract, I assume? Nash coming is not too far fetched.

Do you think Nash would really take the vet minimum? I doubt it but who knows.

If we could grab him for that, sign a defensive presence similar to Tyson Chandler and then fill out the bench, we would be following the Dallas model pretty nicely.

yes i think so because at his age, he cant carry a team any more. he wants a title too and i think he has an excellent shot on our team. but we still need a defensive minded rebounding 4 or 5.

It's not about what Nash will 'take'. It's about what the market is willing to pay him, and what he feels is the best destination for him.

If he'd be willing to take the vet minimum here, why wouldn't he go to the Heat instead?

Rose is not the answer.

Because he was most successful under MDA and Stat.

Nash is also a New Yorker now. This might add to his decision making.

Yes but if he is looking for a championship they are in better shape - coming off a year where they were 2 wins from one, while the Knicks are still building and got swept in the first round.

I understand Nash is a NYer and has a history with STAT and MDA - but the Heat are also pretty attractive if you are taking a pay cut to win.

Would anyone consider a straight trade of Billups for Nash - with maybe some $ to equal salary? Both have expiring contracts for 2011:
Salaries 2011-12:
Nash $11.7 mil
Billups $14.2

Nash is 2 1/2 years older.

The problem is, if you are trying to build a Mavs like team that trade defeats the purpose.

The idea is to have Nash at the point and Billups at the 2 for stretches like the Mavs do with Terry and Kidd. I think its pretty effective (although I am not sure you can compare Billups and Terry).

every opponent backcourt would love to play against that lineup too. It'd be like a game of Ole.

No. Nash doesn't play defense, we don't need yet another hole to fill.

Didn't you hear STAT talk about how defense is going to be #1 priority?

I would love for this trade to happen. Nash is a better fit than Billups.

Seriously. You can love or hate the coach, but there's no denying Nash can run that system better than anyone. He obviously has chemistry with STAT, and throw in a weapon like Melo on the court too? Bring in a couple bigs via the draft/DLeague (I'm lookin' at you Jeff Foote)/Jerome Jordan to add some height, and this team is down right scary.

It's only June, but I'm already pumped for next season. Keep praying there's no lock out.
