Ewing.

Dirk is blessed with a nice supporting cast. A more talented and deeper team than any one that Ewing played on.

And yes I think Terry is as good or even better than Starks.

You think so? Unlike Ewing, Dirk has never had an all-star teammate (as far as I can remember at least)

i might have to go with ewign though dirk has a championship. the era that ewing played was much physical and it helped the defense where this era is definately offensive friendly.

Well, Dirk has an old Kidd. He still counts for something. I don't know if he's had another all-star but he's had very talented players on his team. They just weren't the right mix. It all came together this year with this group of guys.

Who is the all-star that Ewing played with that you are referring to? Bernard King? Mark Jackson?

Well I know in one season, Ewing, Starks, and Oakley were all all-stars.

It's extremely close even though they're such different players.

Dirk is a league regular Season MVP, a series Mvp and has a championship ring.

Three things Ewing does not have.

Mavs beat previous two time champs Lakes to unseat them and then move on to beat a formidable team.

Mavs have a very valid championship on their hands!

Ewing didn't only score 24 pts a game and grab rebounds, he play defense against some great talents.
If Starks was a consistent as Terry was this series, Ewing would have a ring too.

Dirk is much more clutch than Ewing. I loved Ewing's defense though. I voted for Dirk.

First of all I gotta say that I am a BIG Knicks fan!!! I live in Germany and the Knicks team of 94 even thought they lost the finals against the Rockets this team back in the days with all their guts, intensity and heart made me love the sport of basketball and thus brought and invaluable part of my life ever after to me!!!

This said... I voted for Dirk.
One thing I have to pass on to you guys out there that you probably can't understand is what this guy has done for the sport of basketball in a whole nation. Germany is a soccer country. Basketball never really played a big role and since Nowitzki came into the league it is just brilliant to see the impact he has on German basketball and how people perceive it. He is one of our all time great sportsmen and 81 million people are proud of him and what he achieved!!! The way he did it was with class and dedication and that is so much adored here. The way he has allways stayed down to earth is just incredible!!!
People here had to stay up until 5 o'clock in the morning in order to watch the games and they did... just because of him!!!
And all of that is not even talking about what an incredible skilled player he is at his size!!!

I voted for Ewing. He was more complete player than Dirk, he was a defensive force who was never paired with a HOF pg or a complementary cast. It would have been nice to see him with Mark Jackson for a long stretch through his career-that might have been the difference.

Lebron is a better player than Dirk.

Yes, if Starks was Jason Terry Ewing would have a ring.

Ewing is the better athlete but Dirk is the better winning player.

So if you have to list the 50 best players of all time and have to list them in order, who would be higher on your list?

At 32 Dirks career is still pretty good. Its not over.

I'd rank Dirk higher. Regular Season MVP is a pretty strong honor.

Maybe it is different if Ewing and Knicks won in 94?

Dirk's a forward and Ewing was a low post Center.

Would Ewing even be in the top 50? Does he still rank in the top 10 centers?

These days you have 7 foot forwards like KG and Dirk and 6'6 centers like Chuck Hayes!

1.Wilt
2.Kareem
3.Shaq
4.Russell
5.Hakeem
6.Moses Malone
7. Walton
8. Willis
9.Duncan
10.Miken
11.Unseld

....., David Robinson, Ewing, Parish, Dwight Howard, Thurmand, Bellamy, Etc..........

I got Ewing 13th on top 10 centers.

Is Parish a better player? Don't know but If Ewing was on that team might have he disrupted the flow? Ewing off the ball was great in his college days but not as a pro. Parish was a better "championship" player. Im not taking Miken off the list. He was the first great post player and defined the position. I go 11 on top "10". Unseld HOF score is pretty darn good.

I think Dirk is top 10 forward easy.

It is amazing how such small things can make a huge difference. If Starks goes 6 for 18 (still bad) instead of 2 for 18 in game 7 of the '94 finals, the Knicks probably win a championship and Ewing's entire career is viewed differently. It's also not at all clear to me that this Mavs team would have beaten a Bulls team with MJ, Pippen, and company in their primes. I'm just playing devil's advocate here. The comparison is so difficult.

I'm a Knicks fan on a Knicks board. This is not brain surgery.

Ewing is better than Dirk.
Willis is better than Dirk.
BK is better than Dirk.
DeBusschere is better than Dirk.

The best Knicks will always be better than the greatest Mavs.

Serious guys why would you campare ewing to dirk...they played in 2 different era's...you think if carlise was coaching the knicks in 94 he would have let starks shoot 2 for 18 and not yank him when he was 1 for 13..especially when you have adequate bench help.

People blame ewing and his suspect support, but never want to blame jvg and riley for some of there suspect rotations. The knicks drafted horrible in the 90's..

Dirk is a special talent who has pg like range for a 7ftr...terry is not better then starks by a long shot..terry (for the most part) plays against bench guys as a 6th man..

Do you think dirk can guard ewing or hakeem in there prime..do you think terry could guard miller or jordan in there prime. Nither of them are 1/5th of the defender starks and ew were..

Derrick harper and doc rivers were on there last leg when they played with Ew, charlie ward, chris childs where defenders not awsome pg's..mark jackson..1st knick stint ...too young couldn't shoot a jumper..2nd stint..too slow too old.

Kidd is a hof...
