D'Antoni doesn't seem to have many votes of confidence from anyone

Dallas was originally and ONLY Offensive Team (Don Nelson built team and son is still part of organization). But they added defensive minded players (Chandler and Marion to go with the offense. Kid is only team oriented PG with a little defense better when he was younger so you can probably add him to the list. DeShawn was known as a ball hawk when drafted so another defensive minded player. Terry is their bench spark so adds to the offense.

Knicks need defensive minded players added to the team to play better defense in the C, PG and SG to help Amare/Melo in my opinion.

Rick Carlisle is also a good defensive coach.

Jimmer and Klay Thompson both talked about how the Knicks coaches were really focused on defense, so much so that it made an impression on them. I don't believe that you need a defensive coach in order for the team to play good D. The Knicks lacked quality size and rebounding, starting with Amar'e who should be the LAST player to ever talk about defense and rebounding. If he simply did more of both this team would improve immediately. If you notice Turiaf, Jared, Fields, Sean Williams, Gallo, Chandler, Felton, TD and Carter didn't need any special coaching to defend hard in games. They all did as much as they could, however you can't expect a miracle if you don't have players that can battle inside and secure a rebound to finish off the possession. That's the biggest area that stopped this team from being better defensively. If you let teams get second chances they're gonna score.

Rick Carlisle is also a good defensive coach.

I agree the coach also an addition to the defense. Even though I don't mind D'antoni staying as long as they find players and defensive coach I also don't mind replacing the coach w/ Adelman as my choice. But my primary choice is to keep the same team/coach to keep the comradery but add some new pieces/def coach.
