With Cleveland picking 1st and 4th in this years draft. They will most likely pick Kyrie Irving and maybe luck out with Kanter in the 4th pick. Baron would be great in teaching Irving the ropes but the best scenario would be to get another vet PG with a shorter contract. Enter Billups. I think Billups would be a great mentor for Irving and his 1 year contract opens up Irving starting in the 2nd year.

A trade straight up would work.

I think Baron Davis could be another star, not a superstar, that we can add to our core. He would work perfectly with Amare in that Baron is great at setting up big men that can fly for easy dunk shots. He averages about 7 dimes a game. His 3pt %age is a little low but I can live with it.

OR

We can make it a little more interesting. Since they now have a log jam at the 4 spot with Jamison, JJ Hickson, Varejao, and Harangody...maybe we can expand the trade to something like this...

Billups, Turiaf, Balkman and Fields for Baron Davis and Varejao. This would instantly fill 2 of our needs. PG and C.

This would open us to drafting the BPA for the 17th pick instead of concentrating on just the PG and C spot. Then buy 2 more late picks and we are there.

C-Varejao
PF-Amare
SF-Melo
SG-17th pick?
PG-Davis

Bench - TD, Walker, Re-signed Shawne Williams, Rautins, 2 late picks.

I would be good with that.

so your basically saying essecially:

Turiaf, Fields and Balky (Cap fodder) for Varejao?

How many years on Davis' contract? Two?

Actually CLeveland could be scary. I think you ease Kanter into the leauge and manage his minutes. Young bigs are valuable and break easy.

Taking Baron on is a big favor Cleveland would have to pay us very nicly to do.

Yup. Basically, Turiaf and Balkman is fodder. It would be Fields for Varejao.

Baron has 2 years.

They still have JJ HIckson(which I like alot) and Jamieson and Harongody to help Kanter.

Maybe you are right about giving Cleveland a favor. Would a 2nd round pick from them be good enough. They have 2 2nd rounders. I would gladly take their #32 pick.

Select Marshon Brooks with the 17th pick and he comes in as the starting SG. Then select Greg Smith or Keith Benson in the 2nd round.

I wasnt clear. We cant trade Billups without getting a PG to replace him. Baron Davis is a scoring guard.

Just throwing it out there but...

Billups to Philly

Iggy to Cavs

Baron to New York

Not gonna lie Baron here would be bananas for at least 1 season if not 2....then the wheels come completely the eff off, thereafter

Hmmm. I never viewed Baron as a scoring PG like Dinglebury and the like. His career numbers are 14.51 ppg, 7.53 apg. That doesn't scream scoring PG to me. Granted I have not seen him play a lot but everytime he played the Knicks he was a pest.

Yeah Baron is a point guard with weapons around him there's no denying this but when given too much responsibility and no weaponry he's a classic chucker

You dont think Billups is a scoring guard? For the most part, Baron averages more assists per game. His issue is weight and injuries.

Anyway, I think the trade is about getting a C.

Wow I actually like this trade alot.

Knicks get a quality Center and PG, who would "still" command respect from the stars. I also think he is a better distributor in the PnR and is just as healthy as Billups.

Varejo would lessen the wear and tear on Amare immediately.

It's not bad at all. Problem may be Cleveland's approach again here. They want an extension on their TPE(somewhat of an indication they aren't hamstrung by cap) they also want the #2 pick. From what I've been reading and hearing they want to move Sessions not Baron as Scott has a relationship with Baron

We are not trading Billups. It's personal.

Better to spend your time thinking of a PG we can draft and a Mozgov 2.0 we can sign.

Had enough Melo?

Did Felton ever tell us he was going to be sitting down with our GM to help make some deadline decisions?

Melo did for the off-season?

Melo included Billups right?
