However I still like to have at least a future role player. even if he's not a PG, he fills a need. with melo on the bench, there wasn't anyone that could penetrate into the lane and put pressure on the D. he could be a good guy to bring in off the bench. if he makes toney D redundant, so be it -- trade toney D. if he's better than douglas, not drafting him just b/c we have douglas would be silly. #Knickstaps

![]() We add value by taking back a bad deal in a trade for CP3. They certainly have one of those in OK4, who also would fill an important role for us on D. Billups and Turiaf would make the money work out (both expiring) and we throw in Fields and TD (or whomever we draft for them in June).
It's not the same situation as Melo because the Hornets have less leverage (i.e., the new CBA will be in place). So CP3 will not be heading into an unknown. He is a max player and if the Knicks (incl. Stat and Melo) want him then they will restructure their deals to make it possible. |

Contracts make it impossible for us to take CP3 and OK4 and just using Billups contract. All of our contracts not including Melo and Amare does not equal CP3 and OK4 and sending them all these players woulf put them way over the 15 allowable. Unless you want to send Amare or Melo with Billups for CP3 and OK4. I don't see that happening. The only way, contract wise, this can happen is sending Billups, TD, Fields and the 17th pick for CP3. Do you think that is enough? Crazier things have happened I guess. |

![]() Then we just wait for 2012, dump salary now, suck for a year, and hope CP3 doesn't get hurt between now and then? Hmm, maybe we should take Melo's opinion on the matter more seriously.

![]() This seems like the most reasonable plan moving forward. Paul won't last until free agency. That will be a rarity for all-star players after last summer. We have to build assets and hope Paul forces his way here. Finding the right player in the draft is key, and it will probably be a PG given this year is similar to 2009 draft where there are a ton of talented PGs to find in the mid first round that are too unproven to be lotto picks. This also means there is little reason to wait on locking up a solid center for multiple years. It doesn't have to be a star, but a Dalembert for mid level money is very reasonable. It doesn't allow us to retain as much future cap space, but at a reasonable cost that is okay. The combination of Billups, Fields, this year's first round pick, and Douglas shouldn't be enough to acquire Paul, but has a chance if he forces his way here. That is still a good amount of talent depending on Fields development and our first round pick.
