Talk about a nice backup plan to cp3. It looks like he might be trying to push his way out of SA with his comments about them not being a great team anymore. It implies that he expects them to rebuild soon. I say we still draft a good backup PG then go hard for dalembert and another vet like Anthony Parker and make a run at Tony Parker. Give them the final year of billups and a combination of Douglas, Williams, walker etc then go for a title.
C Dalembert/ Turiaf/ Jordan
PF Stoudemire
SF Anthony
SG Fields/ A Parker
PG T Parker/ Morris or Selby

I love your enthusiasm but lets put it into realistic terms: You would like to exchange Billups+? for Tony Parker. What do you throw at the Spurs such that they would give up Parker?

I think they would be interested in Williams and Douglas but maybe it will take Fields or our draft pick. You are right that we may need to give up a lot more but I think we have some pieces that might interest them

They got Hill, Jefferson, Gary Neal at the same positions as Williams Douglas and Fields. We don't got what they would need.

I am not interested in going after a PG who's past his prime and on the down-swing. He's still got game, but it will be less and less every year. CP3, on the other hand, is just about to enter his prime years. If we're going to empty our cupboards even further, let's get a star in his prime to build our three amigos core. Plus, I can't really see Stat and Melo chumming around with a Frenchman in NYC.

Tony Parker is exactly what we need. A proven vet who can run the offense. I dont see the Spurs trading him though.

I agree that Fields would probably have to be thrown in to placate the Spurs fans who might see this only as a lateral move.

Tony Parker's in the same age/experience window as Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e and is the type of penetrator that New York needs to set those two guys up (He's 28). That's why this idea works for me. Like the Carmelo Deal, it doesn't solve the issues at the bigs but it improves the team and prolongs the championship window by a few years. Realistically, if I could toss Billups/Fields to San Antonio and get Parker in return, that's worth a look. Then if they could get a big like Dalembert in free agency and draft the best player available, there's a good team to work with.

what's it gonna take to get tony? if it's billups, fields, and shawne williams, i think you gotta pull the trigger. draft marshon brooks, and pray dalembert signs for the MLE.

Who cares about Stat and Melo when he can chill with Turiaf and Thierry? Triple T! Champagne pour tout le monde !

This is the set of moves to make. I would even deal our pick as part of a Parker package. A lineup that includes Melo, Stat, Parker, and Dalembert just needs a shooter and a solid group off the bench and can definitely compete for a championship next season. And i hate how people say Parker is on the decline of his career. He is 28, this is his prime, and will be for more years. We would get at least 6-8 strong years from him and i'm good with that.

6-8 strong years? he is 28, but he's been in the NBA for 9 seasons. he has played 122 playoff games, so this guy is basically a 10-year vet. on top of that, the word on the street is parker parties hard and lives it up. i've had friends see him in clubs in the meatpacking district the night before knicks games at 5am drinking out of bottles with girls on each arm. i think he'd be an upgrade, but i'd be surprised if the knicks were looking at this guy after his extension is up (4 seasons as a knick).

Even still, 4 years at his current contract is very solid value for a player of his caliber at his age. It will also give us the 4 years of the melo, stoudemire, parker combination, then we can look at our options when those contracts expire. It is a great plan for the next 4 years. Billups, Fields, and the 17th pick for Parker if that's what it takes.

From that look on Parker's face it looks like he's thinking of "multiple" possibilities

Yeah, I guess TP would be cool to hang with. He seems like a guy who knows how to have fun.

I think it's time to revisit an old friend; Ray Felton. We all know that he's miserable sharing time with Lawson in the backcourt. He already has familiarity with the system, especially Amar'e and is a better option that TP. He has already indicated that he will try to move mountains to get out of Denver. He's also in the final year of his contract. Something can be done.

Billups for Ray Ray and the Birdman? Don't know how the salaries match out or if The Bird would wreck our 2012 plans, but he'd give us veteran rebounding (an area of need) and Felton would run our offense (arguably) better than Billups (certainly faster). I'd take Ray over Chauncey any day, not just due to age, but because Chauncey will always be homesick.
