Knicks guard Toney Douglas apparently was playing with a torn labrum. Had surgery today. Recovery time 12-16 weeks, team says.

That shows a lot of heart... and explains a lot of his horrible shooting.

Get better soon, Toney. He's an important part of the team next season.

Here's info on a labrum tear, sounds brutal:

Yeah as long as we are not pretending he is a PG, I have no issues with him. Probably one of the better defenders on the team.

Its water under the bridge, but I gotta wonder how long he was injured and why he was allowed to continue to play. Would the team have been better off with more minutes for AC?

It explains his play to an extent, but that's baffling why he played much at all then.

That being said, I don't really think he has a role on this team. As a PG, he can't run an offense. At SG, he's a little on the small size; maybe too small to justify getting minutes there. He's incredibly streaky; I'd rather someone a little more consistent.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

please.. the guy played lights out one night, then played the complete opposite the next..he may have been hurt, but he also hurt the team. His overall play was erratic, weather he was shooting, passing, or just flat his flat out mental approach, it was all erratic, and head scratching.

he was initially hurt either in preseason or one of the first games of year. KG or Shaq pick.

Knicks guard Toney Douglas, who played the entire regular season with a right shoulder injury suffered during preseason, underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a torn labrum in that shoulder.

This would be the same shoulder I saw him dislocate and pop back into place then hand out an assist on the other end after. The same shoulder he would use making that behind the back pass to Jefffries with. The same one he'd usually finish with and then try out that righty floater.

Dis his game all you want but I'm betting by February you'll be able to trade him straight up for Mayo if the salaries matched. But then you'd have to throw in extra to match currently.

Strange injury or timing of it really. He played way above his pay grade for a while there, dude was money from three and playing some better defense.

Then suddenly it all comes to screaching halt; when the entire time he was hurt? I honestly think he was just overwhelmed in the playoffs and while the injury could have been tweeked... It didn't slow him down mid-season one bit.

Explains inconsistencies in his shot, but not his decisions as a PG. If anything, he should have taken fewer shots and concentrated more on distributing the ball to his uninjured comrades.

It was Shaq. Pre-season game against Boston. He went down on a hard foul driving the basket from left to right and Shaq nailed him. Nate even had a heart to heart with him immediately after the game it looked like and asked if he was trying to get broken or something. Nate chatted him about something anyway.

Can always use players like Toney on your team. He can be a Tony Allen that can shoot.

1) He played well down the stretch and helped us win a bunch of games, especially with his shooting
2) Through the months of Feb, March and April - post all star he averaged 13.4 ppg, 4.5 Ast and only 1.2 TO. He shot 40% from 3pt land.

He's a bench defensive player at best. His problem's more in his head than his body. But I'd keep him on the cheap as a solid, rugged backup for both back court spots.

he scores in spurts too. not a bad guy to have on the bench. plays hard, plays hurt. lets give him another year before writing him off.

Damn, much respect for Toney.

My friend had a torn labrum in BOTH shoulders back in HS from benching improperly. He got surgery on one shoulder. Didn't fix it. He got another surgery on the SAME shoulder. Still didn't fix it. The docs say the problem is that there's still a bunch of cysts or something in the shoulder. Today my friend can't lift a 20 pound weight over his head and he can't swim more than a couple of laps.

Good luck to Toney, hope he recovers 100%. I'm sure the Knicks docs will force him to do a lot of PT, seems like its crucial for this surgery to work.
