if reports are true that Donnie is going to force d'antoni to get an assitant coach who preaches defense i want Mike brown. He will have a voice in the discussion, meaning you will hear his voice during timeouts. He got fired in cleveland because of his offensive schemes but if you look at clevelands defense during his time, they were really good. I think we can get him, because mike brown was under donnie before and people like working for donnie because he is a class act. I say fire Herb and make mike brown our lead assistant. Make herb find a job as a college coach instead.

Mike Brown wasn't a very good head coach but would make a good defensive assistant. You wouldn't have to fire Herb to bring him in, though.

he actually was.... he led cleveland to 66 wins.. he seems underrated for me because he has poor offensive schemes but looks like a good motivator who keeps his team intact.. you dont win 66 wins with one player alone

Brown might be a good choice if D'Antoni leaves for coach. I don't think he takes an assistants job with D'Antoni. He is a former Coach of the Year and won at a rate similar to D'Antoni in Cleveland with less talent.

thats why i want him to be our defensive coach, but im scared d'antoni wont accept for fear that mike brown might change him.... If i was d'antoni ill resign and go to golden state.... he has the perfect players there for his system

this Mike Brown concept makes AWESOME sense. I think Mike D might be too intimidated by Mike B to make it work though, and Mike B's offense is lacking, to put it politely.

Doc Rivers is what the team needs.

I'm not interested in assistants, nor should anyone be.

This is like asking Phil Jackson to hire an assistant who wants to stop running the triangle.

Hahaha... I'm not a hater but that analogy is pretty good.

without his assistants, Phil doesn't even HAVE the triangle.

So Phil is just in charge of choosing the titles they read in their book club?

People really do get carried away with these coaches. 95% of a teams success is the talent the GM puts together. After that the coach and his staff have to properly manage that talent. The great coaches can push a team up past it's potential but they can't work miracles. Give Phil one of the lottery teams and he can only do so much. They still don't sniff the finals!!! It always starts with the talent. If you don't have championship talent your coach can only help make it better but let's keep it real.

Am I the only one who would want to bring Patrick Ewing in?

If you are going with a coach specifically for defense, and potentially positioning him to take over should Dolan realize what crap MDA is - then go for Ewing.

Defensive minded big man who to some degree, by default would require D'Antoni to find a sizable 5 that he could accept.

MDA needs to bring in someone and let that person run the defense. Our defensive scheme is flawed. Several players have said as much. I am not sure if MDA is not paying enough attention to details or if the system is too complicated or if the system is too simple. Whatever it is, it is not working and I don't think it is just a matter of personnel (although our personnel certainly is not helping). We need a defensive specialist in here to put an emphasis on defense and to develop schemes these guys can actually run and that will actually work.
