The most important step the Knicks can make to plan for next season and beyond is sign up Donnie Walsh. This man did what he said he'd do and got us two superstar-type players. Now we need to give him the chance to flesh out the roster around our big guns.

Give Donnie a two year or three year extension and let him finish the job he started.

Agree. But honestly, Donnie deserves better.

I'm a bit torn with donnie as i want d'antoni out.... donnie seems to be a loyal guy and dosent want to humiliate his staff( he didnt outright fire isiah).

But if we get Rick adelman as coach and pitchard as GM i wouldnt mind Donnie leaving.. at least he brought our team back

heard that one reason Donnie's option wasn't picked up yet is because an extension may be better for him with respect to the looming lockout. apparently his option year may not have a clause that covers payment during work stoppages. whereas, some of the more recently signed GM's have deals which address that contingency. perhaps the idea is to re-sign Donnie to a fresh deal that covers him in-case the players and owners can't get their acts together.

ha, i bet it's the opposite: Dolan does not want to PAY Donnie if there is a work stoppage, and that's why he is hesitant to pick up the $5M option which may regardless if there is a season or not.

I don't care if Walsh is brought back or not there are "qualified" execs out there. The key is to fix the mess that exist.

We need to get rid of Dantoni because Donnie is influenced by him in the players he acquires . We need to rebuild and get a damn center and power foward to back up Amare, not to mention either get a 2 guard or start Bill Walker , Fields should not be starting we need shooters around Melo and Stat to keep the defense honest.

Would Walsh pull a "if D'Antoni goes I go" ? Don't know, hope not. He's been the best thing to happen to the Knicks in a very long time.

I love what Donnie did but he also did not bring in a back up PG and did not find a cheap big body. I think he has to do this this year if he comes back. Do you think C Brewer or A. Randolf could have helped us in this series? Donnie has to be the man and stop letting D'Antoni call shots.

i wish i could find the article where i read the point about the lockout contingency. however, it's all speculation so your guess is as good as mine. i will counter that while dolan has shown himself to be dumb, he's hasn't shown himself to be cheap.

Asked directly if he expects to be the team president on opening night of the 2011-12 season, Walsh said: "I haven't got any crystal balls, so I don't know, but I wouldn't make a big deal out of that. I don't know how you can extrapolate. There are a lot of factors involved, some mine, some the franchise's, and whatever comes out of it comes out of it. But it's not something I'm thinking about right now at all. I'm thinking about tomorrow, and after tomorrow I'll be thinking about the draft and free agency and trades, or whatever."

"I've seen enough of our players to know who's important to our franchise and who's not," Walsh said. "Let me just say this: Before we got into the playoffs I knew we needed other elements. So I've been thinking about how are we going to be able to do this and that, and that's complicated because there's going to be a new collective bargaining agreement. But you're going to be able to do something, and that's what I'm thinking."

"No matter what happens here, it will help us to go through that kind of an experience with a team like Boston because it shows you what you've got to be like," Walsh said. "You've got to be tied together in a very close way, and they are. And that's why they have a successful team. Teams that have been through big moments like they have, that's how you learn, that's how you get there.

"We got our ass beat last night, which does happen from time to time," Walsh said. "We're in a tough position because we're missing the two guys. Amare showed great heart by playing, but you could see there was difficulty for him. I think we need to try to do the best we can tomorrow and see if we can bring it back to Boston, but our future is going to be pretty good, and that's the only thing I can say right now, and I'm not using that as an excuse or anything else. I think it was good for us to get in the playoffs, we see what we need to have and what we don't have, and we have to get to work to make sure we have it."

Donnie probably didn't need the money before he started.
