Good News From Our 6'8 Small Forward

The most telling stat of the recent stretch is Carmelo shooting fifty per cent. It is a positive indicator that he is learning the subtle adjustment of being more selective. The bonus is that in the process he appears more comfortable in his rhythm of taking (and making) the three point shot. That is NOT what he is known for, but wonders never cease. You cannot always predict the arc of an elite talent. Carmelo is an elite talent. He is as funky as he wants to be.

Hell, if I was that talented I would smile too.

As Carmelo is acutely aware of his surroundings he hears the crowd in New York, egged on by the over-the-top treatment from the home PA announcer. Anthony KNOWS there is no stage like one on Broadway. He is part athlete, part performer. He has a rare confidence to raise his game to the level of competition and expectation. Not many athletes have that ability and only one or two can do it consistently, night in and night out. You ever wonder why so many performers break under the pressure? It is humanly impossible to be "on" every day. Next time you are sitting at your desk at work daydreaming, ask yourself if you could be doing better. Then look over your shoulder to see if anyone is cheering.

The point being, the Knicks artwork is far from complete. Watching an artist like Carmelo in his studio is a rare treat. He will experiment and do things that may not make sense at first. He will purposely make mistakes as he tests his limits. That is what artists do. If he makes a thirty foot shot, he may attempt a 35 footer the next time down the floor. Heat check? Nope. It's a creative thing. Nine rebounds? Not bad. Imagine if he WANTED to grab 15, could he? Of course he could. There is a reason why Landry Fields' rebounding has dropped. Carmelo is beating him to the ball. Or it could be sheer coincidence. I don't care. Just win baby.

Winning the player of the week is cute. Winning a ring is better. Mr Anthony knows this.

Can four really beat five?

Carmelo shooting 50% is an aberration, it can't last. I saw him take some terrible shots last night, the type of shots that go in when you're riding a hot streak but should generally be avoided.

You can write it off as creativity or art, but sooner or later you will have to come to terms with reality- poor shot selection and inefficient bucket dropping.

Tony Campbell scored 21 points per game in 1991.

Perhaps, one can always whine and moan about the sun being out with the knowledge rain is on the way. You can hate the pitcher for throwing a no-hitter and claim it should have been a perfect game. Or you can simply throw rocks at a person because he does not conform to your (cough) standardized, conservative "American" aesthetic. Tough noogies.

The same people who complained about Copernicus complained about Benjamin Franklin. The same conformists who complained about Elvis, complained about rock and roll and school integration. The same people who protested Vivian Malone walking into the University of Alabama, complained about Wilbur Jackson, until he started running people over.

he's playing like you hoped when the trade was made. He can take over games. Hopefully we are able to upgrade the rest of the roster

Or he can lay in the weeds as a decoy. Passing to a cutting 6'11 clone of Marcus Camby.

Baylees looked like Michael Jordan. If someone does not get in front of Dwayne Wade, he will have a field day driving the paint.

Was it reality when Carmelo shot 9-12?

Was it reality when he dropped 5 three's with ease?

Was it reality when the Germans attacked Pearl Harbor?

LET'S.... DO IT!!!!!

Carmelo Anthony is an offensive BEAST. Everyone already knows this.

He is clearly where he wants to be and it is showing.

I read a great analysis of Anthony on a Denver site a few months ago (wish I had the link). His biggest problem, as identified by the analyst, is shot selection- if he takes good shots his % will go up. His weakness has been that, historically, he takes a lot of bad shots.

We will know that Anthony wants to take his game to the next level when he comes back with an Amare type body- indicating that he spent some time lifting weights. This will give him the ability to play on both ends of he court without having to save his energy for offense.

he may just not have that type of build... Ewing never did, but Melo can lose some baby fat for sure

What are good shots and bad shots when a defender is draped over him? So if he is being defended he should pass to the open man? Im pretty sure the coach rather Carmelo take a contested jumper than guys like Jefferies taking wide open shots.
