The improper usage of the term "phat" renders this thread useless, invalid and devoid of funk. The word "Phat" was coined in the early seventies on the campus of Howard University in Washington DC. It is a respectful term of used to describe a woman of above average physical beauty and sexual attractiveness.

I don't care about who is #1 or #2 as long as they win. Besides there will be times, like now, where Amar'e is off a bit and Melo needs to carry the load and other times when Melo is off and STAT will carry the load. 1 and 1A is fine with me.

Yea, I like 1, 1A, but that's still a top dog and a lesser top dog. I think top dawg has to emerge eventually. I just think that's natural. Hierarchy is a biological truth, humans are not exempt.

I guess it depends on what we're using to define the top dawg. If it's leadership in the locker room and a guy who is the voice of the team I go with STAT. If we're talking about who is the #1 guy on the floor and who is taking the last shot more often than not, it's Melo.

I saw it early in the year, but not recently (past 2+ months).

I know he's tired, but the lack of trying on the defensive end is troubling. Blocking out, knowing where man and ball are at same time, helping out. Those are still things you can do when you are tired.

Melo is the big dawg on the team. He is doing everything these last few games, scoring, rebounding setting up teammates. Amare needs teammates to create opportunities for him, Melo can do that for himself. Amare is at this moment the second option for the simple reason, he seems tired and uninspired especially on the defensive side and completely lost rebounding the basketball.

To me the top dawg is the guy who gets it done on the court. You don't have to be the best player on a team to be a leader in the lockeroom. I love STAT for what's he done this year but to me Melo is the best player on the court aka top dog.

Amare. He is the leader, Melo is the first officer and alpha dog scorer. But leadership involves so much more than offensive output. It's a quality of character to inspire teammates, and Amare has it. Maybe Melo will, too, at some point. Not now.

It should be Amare although I think Billups is the best leader on the team. I hope he is the guy that gets these guys playing 'd' and hard on both ends of the court. I don't think you can discount Billups leadership and experience. I disagree with Smith that it is Melo's team. I think Amare is just worn down.

Melo is a better overall player than Amare anyway. Plus he is younger.

I think Amare rather be winning and not being ran into the ground than worry about who's team it is.
