Right? I'm looking at the standings and it doesn't look like we can mess up that bad. Please some stats & standings math nerd out there reassure me.

Playoff basketball y'all! It's been so long! And once you are in there, anything can happen!

Deep breath...

Oh, and do you know that in the playoffs you mainly win with defense?

Yeah, love the D'Antoni.

To be 's 's advocate: maybe when the stakes are a trophy and not the 6 seed vs the 7 seed, our stars can ignore the glare of the flashbulbs and focus in on defense?

It's a win win situation for Knick fans..

If D'Antoni gets us deep in the playoffs I will be ecstatic.

If D'Antoni gets us bounced in the first round he will be gone.

Life is good.

one can only hope this team can flip the light switch like the Lakers did & start playing some defense for a change once the playoffs roll around, but i'm not holding my breathe on that one.

You really think he will be gone? Isiah isn't on the payroll and yet he isn't gone for good.

I hope D'Antoni is fired after the season, but I doubt Donnie does it.

Yeah - well thank heaven Indiana and Cleveland are not making the playoffs! Maybe we will have a chance since we can only get up for good teams thanks to our Fearless Non-Motivator!
so here is what phil is thinking ....

Too much logic. Don't forget - our team is run by a paranoid schizophrenic, one flew over the cookoo's nest type of retard.

I really hope they don't get BS hot from 3 and win a series and MDAss keeps his job. I want him gone. Regime change. Don't care who. Bring in Chris Dudley for all I care.

Or John Gruden! He will have the team playing better D then MDAss

Knicks not going anywhere as long as this man lurks in the shadows.

Do you really believe that Isiah can't do as good or better of a job? MDAss is no better.

Best case scenario: Knicks get hot from downtown come playoff time, Melo/Amare go nuts, Billups plays like it's 2005 and they make a good run

Other best case scenario: Knicks lose in a 1st round 5 game series, giving up 120 points each game and Walsh says "alright okay but really... some defense?" and D'Antoni has a hissy fit (like in Phoenix) and peaces out

D'Antoni won't be gone unless they don't make the playoffs because the trade was for next year, not this year, and that's pretty much right whether I like him or I don't. Next year is the last year on Mike D's deal so he'll be coaching for his job and he'll have expectations, but don't expect him to go anywhere regardless of what happens this year. D'Antoni's got issues and I don't know if he's the right guy, but he's going to get a chance next year to prove it.

As far as the trade goes, I think it's a clear case of playing to the level of the competition. They've got 6 losses now, but two of those are to Cleveland and two are to Indiana, so it's not a huge deal to me. They're actually good against the winning teams they've played (outside of the Dallas game and the 4th quarter agaist Orlando), but they've got some quality wins too and they've really shown that they can make the basket and make clutch plays when the game's on the line.

I'm not too concerned if they back into the playoffs. Melo, Stat and Billups have a ton of playoff experience (which is why I think they can make noise) and NYK doesn't have a home-court series on the line, so the team isn't playing with anything significant at stake right now. That's why it's more important for them to gel, stay healthy, and get comfortable in their roles.

"Flipping the light switch" usually implies that you had success in the past but have not played up to potential for one reason or another. This Knicks team has no past achievments to look at which allows me to think that if they tighten things up they can play at a higher level.
