Perhaps Dirk? Anyone else?

Dude has been unreal. Seems like he never misses.

Now that Rip Hamilton is chained to the bench, I think Amare is the best mid-range shooter right now.

It's the best thing he ever did, developing his jumper. With his quickness he's ALWAYS gonna have the ability to get his shot off. It's unbelievable how smooth his stroke is. I never realized he was that good of a midrange shooter. I knew he could hit an open shot, but he's on another level. He reminds me a bit of Chris Webber in how smooth his jumper is. Thing is if both he and Melo are on from midrange, it's a wrap.

Dirk still has to be considered best. But Amar'e is the best midrange-in scorer in the game. Dirk is better midrange, and is the best midrange-out scorer

STAT's work ethic has propelled him to star status.

Amare is pretty deadly from the 3 point land as well. He only uses it as a last resourt, to close out 4th quarters, last possession type of option. And rightfully so. His mid-range, driving and passing game is deadly enough to where he should not be really shooting 3 point bombs. Unlike Dirk.

I think Amar'e is more money in catch and shoot situations, or just when he's going iso and decides to launch that elbow jumper.

But Dirk's more versatile cause he can shoot his midrange off the dribble, turnaround, fadeaways, etc. I don't think Amar'e will ever get that skillset.

Still, I knew Amar'e developed his jumper while in Phoenix, but I didn't expect him to be THIS GOOD and confident with it. It's to the point that I don't even mind if he takes a contested midrange jumper from the elbow (which he does a lot), cause he seems to make those at an above 50% accuracy.

He's developed some SF skills in terms of the midrange J- we've even seen him do a curl or come off a pick and take the shot without putting it on the floor, I think.

For the most part, he's been about as automatic as anyone can be, and it really sets things up for his drives to the basket.

I always expect him to make that 17 ft elbow jumper, and am surprised when he misses- I'll bet he's closer to 60% than 50%, by the way.

I'm not trying to discount Amar'e's range, because he has it. But it's different when teams gameplan against it like they do with Dirk. Dirk has one of the sweetest shots around and every shot is a good shot for him, as he shoots over pretty much anyone. His elbow shot is a thing of beauty. They both play different games, both great. I wouldn't have either player change their game

I think Amar'e is a good situational shooter - kind of like how David Lee thrived shooting the mid-range jumper here last year.

I'm not ready yet to crown him the best mid-range shooter. Guys like Kobe, Durant, Dirk, Melo are all nearly automatic from that range.

But it's an added weapon that has made Amar'e almost impossible to stop. I agree that STAT is the best mid-range and in scorer in the league. And he uses the jumper to set it up nicely.

I even feel like he didn't use it here early in the year - remember how often he used to drive into traffic?

He's been working on it, but he's developed supreme confidence in his shot here out of necessity. When he was with Nash, he didn't have to rely on it as much, cuz he got so many easy looks going to the basket. Here he's had to face up so much more and rarely gets those easy setups like he used to. So I think he's moved into the realm of the top mid-range shooters even tho he's not viewed that way. His accuracy has been very consistent and actually has progressed since the start as you mentioned.

Who knew Stat was this good before this season???? I certainly didn't. And the jumpshot off the dribble, off the catch, shake a defender....... who knew it was this good???

Man who ever would have thought the knicks would be not just 1 legitimate top ten player but 2 when the season started!!!!

I remember feeling that way about David Lee this time last year.

STAT has improved his midrange J, but I worry about him falling in love with much like Chris Webber did later in his career. And it's been a while since STAT has violently dunked on someone. Maybe for every three Js STAT makes, he can aim for at least one dunk on Gasol or Randolph during Wednesday's game.

We need Amare to last a few years. I dont mind him taking it easy on those knees.
