Guys we're pretty set with this guy. He can run the offense, play D and has great hands for steals and loose balls. Now lets find us a center!

We already have JJ back...
The perfect center for this team with no shots left.

Man, I've been surprised big time by AC. I haven't really seen him play in years, and judging by the numbers, I thought he was done.
I hope TD is ready to learn - between Billups and AC, the next season and a half could be the best thing to ever happen to his career.

Billups, AC and Donnie Walsh are a combined 141 yrs old! That's Yoda territory.

It would be nice though if he could hit the open J with all the double teams. He was 2 for 8 in the Miami game and 0-5 against Orlando (2 for 4 tonight). But he definitely brings leadership and toughness.
so here is what phil is thinking ....

It's OK to have vet experience when you're trying to win now. The next 2 years we can actually compete while waiting to upgrade the point for the future. Donnie did a great job in that regard. Youth is OK too, but when you get into the playoffs you want to have an edge and this team will have some real experience with vets that can make smart decisions.

It might be good to bring in someone like Ramon Sessions next year to groom for 1 more year behind Billups. What's he doing wasting away on Cleveland anyway?

I like Sessions becuase he plays defense and is tough. He also knows how to get into the lane.

This position will have to be addressed again soon, but for now and next season i think we are set off the bench at PG with Douglas and Carter.

yea dude.. first of all Douglas looked pretty good last night, 2nd of all AC and CB are almost as old as Statler and Waldorf. Maybe Ewing could be the center? We would have finally gotten the 2nd star for him to play with!

35 is the new 28, so I'm not worried about the age here.

With Nash and Kidd playing well late into their 30s, i think Billups and Carter can play the same style they are now for less minutes, but for many more years. If we determine we can't get Paul or Williams next year for whatever reason, we should feel very comfortable with Billups as the starting PG for the next 4 years for 30 mpg as long as we have good depth off the bench.

Since we have to extrapolate the immediate situation in to the future (sarcasm) lets not get too enthralled with late 30's pt guards carrying the franchise. I don't know about Kidd's contract and certainly the guy is built to last. Nash has defied logic also.

I Like Billups a lot but you have to look at his desire to be here and a contract on a guy that could really hamstring the franchise.

I would have no problem with him coming off the bench as a combo guard and he gets crunch time minutes as the game dictates.

Im looking at Chris Paul and his struggles (from the top point)as not a max contract player anymore. Is it his knees? Ownership instability?

If Billups is serious about winning another ring he likley is not going to get top money on any of the top teams (celts-Miami-dallas). Maybe he just wants to go back home to Denver.

Paul at 10mil a year and Billups at 2-4mil gives you great flexibility and the ability to either get over injury.

If we determine by summer 2012 that Paul is damaged goods and not worth signing for his asking price, we should just resign Billups and Douglas, and add Nash to the mix, then focus on a center like Nene, McGee, Varejao, etc. We can get Nash at a bargain price on a 2-year deal, and if we are a contender Billups will want to do the same.
