STEIN_LINE_HQ Sources say Celts, Spurs, Mavs and OKC have all registered immediate interest in Brewer, who holds obvious appeal to all as wing defender

Why? He has value so why buy him out? Keep him and use him for the rest of season to see what you have and trade him after season if he doesn't fit.

We have enough wings. It wasn't Balkman because his contract is guaranteed next year and you can't get rid of it if you cut him.

Azu saves money and may bring what Brewer brings plus shooting.
Balkman has that extra year.
You need size, why get rid of Sheldon?
Carter really showed something guarding Wade.

I personally would have cut Mason, but who know why they are keeping him.

Only way I don't care about this is if we release Mason soon and sign Powe.

I wonder if this is what will unfold. Azu has been said to be ready soon.

Brewer is not attached to the team. Maybe mason is stroking it again in practice.

Has to be. I only really understand cutting Brewer if this is the case. Azu is a better version of him. Guy plays the exact same position the same way but with a better stroke when healthy.

I can also see Balkman and Brewer basically being the same player but Balkman's extra year got him the spot and the extra few months to dump his contract.

Brewer same as Shawne Williams without shot?

Brewer similar to what we saw capable from Billy Walker last night without a shot?

Brewer=redundant.

I don't think Brewer is similar to either. Williams and Walker are weak defensively and can shoot. Brewer is the total opposite.

Although I do agree with your premise we had too many wings.

Who is his agent? Is he a CAA guy?

This smells like a favor to let the guy catch on somewhere. We could have cut Rautins or Mason without issue.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

This. I can only wrap my head around this if we're trying to add 2 players (Powe and JJ), and are cutting Mason and Brewer to do so.

Also, it could be that Brewer's agent requested Walsh to waive him so he could play on a team that would give him minutes, since this is his first FA off his rookie deal.

FYI - Milwaukee Bucks have signed Earl Barron to a 10-day contract.

Wow, I didn't expect that. Perhaps the Knicks want to try for Murphy more so than Barron. They already figure to sign Jared Tomorrow and Murphy would fit real well.
