He's actually awesome when he's within about 12 feet. Maybe if there's not a defender within 10 feet he can shoot jumpshots but otherwise he should be focused on attacking the rim. He's so talented but so frustrating.

Um, he is a great spot up shooter. There was an article written about it earlier this season.

At some point this team will get more comfortable and create easier shots for each other and take better shots. Remember this is not so easy to meld all this talent together and get it smooth. Guys are forcing shots and not trusting the system or each other. It will come. Just like the defensive side of the ball. There's no chemistry yet.

I hope Bonn1997 never writes another panic post.

Carmelo is one of the best shooters in the game.

How about Douglas and his 1/8 night? Where's your thread about that?

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

he shoots well however he likes to up the difficulty. call it kobe disease. he'll catch in the post, face up or grab it on the elbow dribble a few times then pull up. it's always a decent contest when the defender is set.

when he's open, he's one of the best so that's why he's going to need to start getting the ball when he's moving. maybe in another week it might come but high pick n roll hasn't even been used a lot and it's going to be one of our best weapons and it might be a good idea if we use melo off the roll with chauncy or melo and amare... i saw a few times it was tried but the timing wasn't there but i think it can be insanely good for us...

He's only great when he's not defended. Except he's delusional about how good he is when he is defended. So he keeps taking contested shots. Too bad.

He's dangerous with a defender on him too or have you never watched the guy play. All of this is such a small sample size and it's early in the process of him getting comfortable as well as the whole team. I'd give it some time to settle down. No one looks 100% comfortable yet.

Some truth to this, actually, but Melo is a much better midrange shooter, and when he has his rhythm, he is pretty darn effective.

The threat of that midrange J also makes him better going to the basket and drawing fouls, but he is just not the kind of player who is going to do any extra running around to get his shot, and when he does get the ball in the right spot he is going to get shot off one way or another.

I already left room open for shooting wide open jump-shots but those are the only ones he should shoot. What's your explanation for why someone as talented as him only shoots around 45%?

I don't think anyone's basing their criticism of Carmelo on only the sample of Knicks' games. The guy has been doing this for about 8 years. You're making an unfair assumption.

I think how well players integrate does depend on coaching. People like George Karl can get more out of Gallo on Day 2 than MDA got out of Melo that's just fact. MDA is very inflexible and continues to coach his system, where as someone like Karl is making adjustments right out of th e gate. Having said that unlike 50% of the board, I don't have a problem with MDA coaching his system and being inflexible. Because the way I see it, that is what we hired him to do. Now with a coach like that you wont get results quickly but over time when he does get these players to jell our product will look like a far more efficient offense than anything George Karl has ever produced. And even the fans who rail on MDA 24/7 are saying they miss Galoo etc, also miss how Gallo etc played under MDA in that system. Whether they like to admit it or not is a different issue.

However, I would single out Gallo as probably the one player that wasn't utilized to the max by MDA. I wouldn't go far enough to say he should be the primary option or even the primary ball handler but I would have liked to see him the bring the ball up the court a few times like he is proving he can.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Melo's shot is streaky, its a fair point but when it falls he can carry a team and when it doesnt he will get to the line and keep giving you points. He's a volume shooter, thats what we have. The problem is we dont have the supporting cast anymore. We need lunch pale guys and nobody on this team rebounds

So if you were his coach and wanted him to get above 45% from the field, what changes would you recommend instead of mine? Or are you satisfied with 45%?

At the time I thought this was such a ridiculous topic but after 2 months watching Carmelo play and after last nights game it really shows. Some guys want to hate for the sake of hating.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate
