Two sources said Rockets and Jared Jeffries are now working on buyout. A favorite of Mike D'Antoni's as Knicks review big-man options.

Not the best option in the world, but he knows the system and is an active defender.

Can we sign him, please?

We need a big man not a 6'11 SF who can't do anything but take charges.

I would pursue Earl Barron, as well.

But I think Jeffries is a solid pickup.

Bad idea.

Barron's OK, No Jefferies!

Sad that it is our only option as well.

Some scrub on the waiver wire...

That's what happens when we gut our team. Now those talking heads know why Donnie was trying to hold onto Timo.

Losing Timo hurt. We were already thin at center. I had hopes for him to eventually be solid. Didn't have to be spectacular.

I'd still prefer Barron, but I'd be fine with JJ coming back on a minimum deal. Might not be the most competent finisher, but we're already hurting with Turiaf standing around 15 ft away and panicking when he gets the ball.

JJ was a solid glue guy, and definitely improved our team D.

He knows what MDA wants on the court, and he can play some D.

Don't underestimate a guy who can take charges, either.

Terrible hands but a good heart. I'd like to see one of the D-League guys, but Jeffries is a decent role player who can fit in quickly.

D'Antoni has a Jeffries fetish because he is versatile, can run, and start a break.
The major problem is he cannot shoot, cannot guard large centres and is fragile.

I liked what we saw last year out of Barron... I do not understand why the Knicks did not grab him. He is big, decent at D, can shoot an open shot and is an aggressive rebounder.

Not in Phoenix he couldn't.

How much do we actually know about what kind of opportunity he had in Phoenix.. did he get decent burn?

He was behind Frye and Robin Lopez in the rotation, so not really.

I was still never impressed by Earl Barron. Ever. Not once.

Jeffries had several games where he impressed me. And he'd be an interesting look to throw at a DWade or Lebron on defense. He's a good hustle guy, knows the offense, knows what coach wants and plays well.

He's horrible on offense, but in case you didn't notice - the offense is going be in the hands of Amar'e/Melo/Billups about 90% of the time.

Funny how he looked so solid with us (yeah, it was a short audition) and then seemed like an overwhelmed D-leaguer with the Suns, who play a similar offense.

Strange.

He was playing in March/April, a time of year when a lot of teams, even playoffs teams let up in games against teams who are out of it. I don't usually trust stats from young/unproven guys in April. Remember one year Mardy Collins averaged a triple double in April?

D'Antoni actually likes Jeffries. If he is actually bought out, I'd save it's 75% likely he comes back here.
