Carmelo Will Consider Extension With Nuggets If Not Traded By Deadline
Feb 09, 2011 17:48 PM EST

Carmelo Anthony is now saying that he'll consider signing a contract extension with the Nuggets.

Anthony said he would "take a real hard look" at signing a three-year, $65 million extension with the Nuggets if he
isn't dealt by the NBA's Feb. 24 deadline, according to the Denver Post.

Over the past week Anthony has been linked to the Knicks and Lakers. The All-Star had never heard of L.A. as a suitor.

"I've never heard of that. That was a new one," he said. "It is what it is. Everyday is something different. I guess now is the Lakers."

Denver first offered Anthony the extension back in June.

Let's just move on. This is getting worse than LeBron. Why don't he make up his mind.

Moronic statement by Melo-probably dreamed up by his agents to get the knx nervous. He and/or his agents are idiots if they think that will do anything but make Denver do anythings but hold out.

He is doing exactly what I would have done in his situation. He sees no deal happening and doesn't want the Denver crowd to boo him for the rest of the season. Once they get into playoffs or out of it, his store will do a 180 degree turn.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Enough of this. We should make our offer to Denver. If they don't want them they have Walsh's # if they reconsider. Otherwise it's time to pull the plug and stop distracting our players we do have. If Melo wants Denver fine, his choice. Tired of us begging people to come play with us and us begging teams to do buisness with us.

About two months ago, I read a news article that Carmelo was very concerned with the negative reaction LeBron received in Cleveland. Carmelo who enjoyed his years in Denver, certainly doesn't want to be booed next year when he visits Denver. So Melo needs to stay on good terms with Denver ownership.

The consequences of Melo's statement will likely affect the Knick's modestly not dramatically. First they need to refrain from publicly stating that Denver has no choice but to take their offer. Also they probably will have to increase their offer modestly to prove to Denver that Melo helped increase their bargaining power. Melo can still get word to the Knicks that he wants to play for them. He just can't publicly say it any more to the media.

Does Melo still want to win a championship in NYC? I am confident that he does!

If I were the Nuggets I would tell his agent that if Melo wants to go to NY he has to make them sweat and make a better offer or he is going to be traded to another team. He put them in a hole by saying that NY was the only place he wanted to be. Maybe this is a way to make up for that.

Dumbest negotiating move ever! Why would you say something that takes away your best leverage? I'm so tired of this stupid back and forth. His agent was saying last week that it was only the Knicks and then this week Melo says this dumb crap. This entire thing has been totally mismanaged by all involved. What a freakin mess.

Melo wants a trade to go down before the deadline, it's pretty obvious he's pushing for the Knicks to make the move to trade for him.

Well games like tonight should make it more possible that the Knicks push even harder to make it happen. I think Walsh is gonna have very little patience if this team doesn't win the next game. Then we'll have to make darned sure not to fall below .500. It's just a borderline that I think this franchise doesn't want to tip toe around.

DW definitely wants Melo, otherwise he wouldn't have preserved the cap space to go after him after last summer... he just doesn't want to gut the team to get him.

If the Garden fans are as smart and clever as I hope, they will be chanting "We want La La" on Friday.

Im scratching my head at his comment.

The only thing I can think of is he wants to go free agent and giving denver hope makes them reject low ball offers believing he just might stay as his priority is the money.

Or the dumb ass just showed his hand and gave the leverage back to Denver. Is he really frustrated at knicks cuz donnie bid against themselves and give up potential valuable players or assets to get the players? How Donnie gets him is the difference between a championship and a starphuch.

Im convinced if donnie goes its about starphuching to the conf. finals and not a champoinship.

It plays out soon enough!

if dolan is flying out to denver to meet with the owner i think 'the knicks' are interested. i think walsh is doing the reasonable thing and holding firm on a lowball offer while dolan might want him no matter the cost. it's all speculation though.

exactly... the Knicks are playing this the right way... Melo's becoming a little impatient because he wants to get this done & sign that extension w/the Knicks... can't say as i blame him the Knicks & Nuggets have had months to get this done he's done nothing but be upfront w/them through this entire process... i personally take this comment as just him trying to send a message to the Knicks to get this deal done already.
