I am sure that the magic would do this deal to get Kurt's expiring contract. Could Howard be the low-post player that the Knicks are looking for?

He is a low post scoring threat that dominates on some nights. His career averages are 17 and 7. He will be helped by Marbury's passing rather than the the scorer named Lue.

He may be able to be then traded along with Deke for Jamison. We need Jamison, he can score 25 a night.

Howard is a better offensive player, by a lot, but Kurt is a better defender and rebounder.

I would actually do it for a couple reasons. What Juwan gives you is more valuable than what Kurt does. You can always go get a guy like Kurt with the MLE. Kurt's numbers are inflated because he plays on a team with a BAD frontcourt where there are plenty of shots and minutes.

The other thing is Howard is VERY tradeable down the road. He's got a modest (MLE) contract and he's not that old either (31).

To me this deal is a no-brainer, and I dont see why the Magic would want to do it, but for the sake of discussion; YES, I would take Howard.

They will want his expiring contract.

agreed. would be a great deal for the knicks. howard is overrated for sure..well he used to be at least. but he is still much more of a contributor than kt is, who is overrated amongst many knicks fans on this board.

i second that.
I'm gonna third that, I don't think we should trade KT unless me get a significant improvement at the PF spot.

howard is a very very significant upgrade. let go of the kt fantasy, he brings nothing to the table.

I'm not saying I like KT, because I don't. But, I think we can get someone better with KT than Howard. I don't see how you think Howard is a very significant upgrade, he is averaging 15 points a game along with 7 rebounds on one of the worst teams in the NBA. Thomas is averaging about 12 points and 9 rebounds on an average team. I don't see how it would be good to go after Howard when Rasheed is still out on the market.

How could you possibly be sure they would. I don't think the magic care that much about expiring contracts. If tmac doesnt resign next year theyll have a crap loada money to spare. If he does resign, well he couldnt b making as much next year for the first year of a contract as he would b this year on the last year of one.

i'd much rather have howard for kt
than wallace for KT and KVH and who knows what else
howard has soft hands and can score, and he doesn't have wallace's hot head.

Kurt for Juwan would be a nice upgrade at PF. Juwan has a better post up game than Kurt but he may not be the post defender that Kurt is. I would do this trade anyway.

No way. Howard's contract extends to 2008-09:

It would be insane to assume it.

I have said this so manby times and people dissed me.
I said it on Real GM and here (i think). Juwann abused KT when we played them.

the bottom line is this...
He has what we are missing in our offense, which is a low-post scorer.

He can do it, and KT is a 6'9" 2 guard. Alll he does is shoot 16 footers.

Adding Juwann howard makes us so solid.
I want this to happen, and I am glad I am not the only one who sees this.

Rasheed wallace is another 6'10" 2 guard avging about 3 3's a game. I don't want him. Did I mention he has an underdervoleped brain!!!!???

woodman i totally disagree with u...
its more like......
HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LMAO, im starting to wonder if these knick fans judge players by their boxscores or they they actually watch them play...

i know j. howard has some pretty good stats, but trust me, he doesnt play the way his number looks... except that he doesnt average 1 block or 1 steal

this guy has no post game, he plays facing the basket, has no athletic ability whatsoever, is very slow, very predictable, does the same moves over and over, and not very tall...prolly same height as KT..give or take 1 inch

sorry if im over reacting, but trust me, ive watched howard play this year, and he sux.... he is the reason why orlando sux this year...he is a waste of space, he took goodens space and then gooden started believing he was a SG, when they didnt hit jumpshots, the only person that was guarded on shots was tmac, and the team were put in positions to either shoot or prolly never get a better look..

for u knick fans that watch knicks play but not the magic much:
hes like a van horn with 12 foot range, a little slower, a little extra less athletic LOL, a little stronger, but yes even slower...

Knicks being curt with Kurt on deal

BOSTON - Preliminary talks between the Knicks and Kurt Thomas regarding a contract extension for the veteran power forward have stalled before really getting started.

"We've had discussions but they haven't been very fruitful," said Thomas' agent, Jerry Hicks. "The fact that they've expressed interest in doing something with Kurt, we interpret that to be a positive, but nothing has happened."

Thomas, who had six points and eight boards last night against Boston, can exercise a buyout clause in his contract this summer and become an unrestricted free agent. But until the Feb. 19 trading deadline passes, he is a prime candidate to be traded, possibly to Portland in a deal for Rasheed Wallace.

Isiah Thomas has said that he wants to keep Kurt Thomas, but that hasn't stopped the Knicks' president from pursuing Wallace. Unless a third team is included, the Blazers would trade Wallace to the Knicks only if Thomas were part of the deal.

Yesterday, a Portland newspaper reported the Blazers were discussing a deal with Golden State that would send Nick Van Exel and Erick Dampier to Portland for Wallace.

With Allan Houston out indefinitely with sore knees, it is unclear if Isiah Thomas would make a run at Van Exel, who can play either guard position. Thomas would like to make the Knicks more athletic along the front line, which is why he is after Wallace. A trade for Van Exel also would have to include Kurt Thomas. If Thomas is still around after Feb.19, the Knicks would want to re-sign him but they also run the risk of alienating someone who has a history of doing the unexpected.

Thomas, who is from Dallas, left the Mavs as a free agent after being insulted by their contract offer. It was believed Thomas would re-sign with Dallas until the moment he joined the Knicks. Thomas says that he wants to stay in New York but that could also change. Yesterday, he refused to comment about his contract status.

NOTEBOOK

CHOOSING ISIAH? Dennis Rodman made a pitch to join the Knicks yesterday saying, "I could play for Isiah," on Howard Stern's radio show. Rodman says four teams are interested in him; the Knicks claim they are not one of them.
