I dont want to pay twice for Melo... he's a hell of a player but the reason your bringing him in is to compete for a title. The odd man out is going to be Chandler. Love everything about the guy but he's not Melo and he deserves to and will get paid. Assuming Denver doesnt take whatever low ball offer Walsh makes him we should look seriously into trading Chandler for pick(s) or a cheap big in a rookie contract.

IF and I mean IF Melo doesnt get trade at the deadline he's coming here. Why lose a good player like Chandler for nothing?

We may end up doing the same thing we did with D-Lee. Hopefully we can sign and trade Chandler for picks and someone like Anthony Randolph..only y'know he gets to play and pans out.

can't rule anything out with the Clippers but yeah..the smart move would be for them to resign Jordan. Kaman is off their books after next season anyway and they'll need a starting Center.

do you really trade wilson without being sure melo is coming here in the summer? not getting melo would hurt. but not getting melo and losing wilson would hurt even more.

Not if you traded him for a viable center. We need that piece regardless of what happens.

Remember the poll. Vast majority want melo. Me including.

We just don't want to over pay given the circumstances.

I would certainly explore what I could get for Chandler. If we could get a quality center for maybe Chandler and Timmy M, I would explore that trade possibility. The reality is that Gallo, Fields, and Chandler are all really SFs even though MDA plays them at other positions. I think Fields will eventually be able to replace Chandler's production. Sell high now if a good deal comes along, but only if it is a GOOD deal that solidifies our roster.

For most of the season, our starting lineup has had 3 SFs. We can afford to lose one of them if the player is being replaced by someone else who can contribute.

We can only afford to lose two of them at this point. Fields is the only who has looked comfortable swinging to the two-guard slot so far. If we traded Gallo or Ill Will for a quality big, we could move to STAT to PF and have the remaining small forward stay at their natural position. A decent big could also minimize the loss of Will and Gallo's rebounding. The loss of Field's rebounding would be harder to make up for, especially at the shooting guard spot.

I like everything about Chandler's game but he's a 3, not a 4 and he plays the same position as Gallo. If I can get a bigman who is reasonably comparable in talent I would do that. The thought is your going to sign Melo outright. In order to do that you need to resind Chandler which would be a shame and take away some of the value in aquiring Melo. One of those guys from the Clips/Kings obviously comes to mind but there are always other options. Another thought would be Rubio...

Your hedge if you dont get Melo is you keep your cap flex and come away with an asset that is part of your long term building plan. The win is if you get a nice piece for a player that no long fits because you sign Melo.

I dont remember too many if any anti-Melo posters here. Seems like there have been 2 groups. Those who wrongly believe Melo is in the same category as a Lebron or Kobe and believe the Knicks should do anything and everything to get him and those that understand Melo has a value and overpaying isnt a positive. Which group where you in?

I think I am in both groups. I do think Melo is a premier talent. I do think he has a specific value. I do think overpaying isn't a positive. But I'm not in the group that completely overvalues guys like Gallo, Chandler, Fields, Randolph and Walker. I'm not saying I would trade all 5 for Melo, but in the right trade only Amar'e is untouchable. Hell, in the "right trade" not even Amar'e is untouchable (but Melo isn't that trade).

I might be basketball stupid, but I think despite his benching, that AR is still the prize in that foursome.

Now that our initial offer for Melo has been turned down, we need to balance a playoff run with getting assets for your expiring contracts. I think they will come back and take the offer. Maybe change something up to save face.

You know I gonna spin wit it

If Melo is in the plan then I think we have to consider trading both Chandler and Gallo to bring in a center. I like Thompson from the Kings but I don't know if he would be the ideal center for a MDA system.
