I'm beginning to think that this 5 game losing streak may very well be an indicator of the how the rest of the season may play out. Do you think the Knicks are really much better than a .500 team?

They should be. We do lack some things in terms of balance--our roster core is made up mostly of SF'. But with a guy avg 26-10-2 50% and double digit scorers surrounding him at every spot--should we be better than .5? I think the team needs a new voice and direction--players who havent been used need to be brought in with a clean slate and plan. Just throwing a player on the team and removing = scoring isnt going to change much. We need some restructuring of team balance and a new voice at the helm. We have more talent than 22-20 with an MVP type candidate.

I think Hollinger's rating system had it right the whole time, even when we were 16-9 and fans here were super excited.

If all goes well, we'll be a .500 team.

Yup.

We lack size and are one of the worst rebounding teams in the league.

Our offense is inconsistent. Some nights we look like we can topple anyone, other nights our offense looks as bad as the Cavs. Pretty much all depends on whether our jumpshots are going in, and relying on an outside-in game is a recipe for disaster in the playoffs.

And that's why I've never been convinced adding Amare at this stage in our rebuilding process and in his career made sense as opposed to keeping big cap space and getting lots of good draft picks. Amare's played great; it just has more to do with whether we're on track to contend for a championship. I'm doubtful. I think we're way too many pieces short and we don't have all day since Amare's already in season 9 and logged as many career minutes as many 14-year players.

We're lucky to be a .500 team courtesy of Mr. Stoudemire.

A second star makes us a 50 win team.

That is how things are going to be with this coach. It might be time to move on after this season. I also can't imagine that Walsh isn't a bit irked that everytime he brings in a young big the guy ends up at the end of the bench and is treated as useless by the coach.

All of my enthusiasm for the team has gone over the past week- with the harsh light of day I look at the team and see we have no rebounders, no back up PG, no real SG, no starting calibre centre either. Our only back up PF/C, Turiaf seems to be unable to play consistantly without getting injured, our bench comprises of 2 SF who are very inconsistant, and an undersized 2 guard with a low basketball IQ, two sprained shoulders and a back injury. The entire team looks exhausted. Honestly, it's a miracle we won as much as we did for so long!

And these stupid Melo rumours! They're stopping us from making any roster moves that would help in the meantime, and now they're destroying the psyche of the team too. Bah!

thats kind of the way i think. I wish we couldve made a few moves to help THIS TEAM and just get melo if thats who the knicks want in FA. Youre right we have way to many SF's not true 2 back up 1 and then we need another quality big.

Hopefully they can bounce back tonight against the Thunder but I have a strong feeling we're going to be looking at a 6 game slide after tonight

As currently constituted I believe the Knicks are a .500-ish team. Two, three, four games above or below would not surprise me. Lack of size, intermittent defense (including the inability to get the clutch stop when desperately needed) and finally the lack of a second dominant scorer make this roster a decent/good team, but not contending squad. In the NBA that usually means a few games above .500 or so.

A lot of us said 7th or 8th seed before the season so I'm not surprised by the current record.

We had one really good stretch of basketball and that fooled a lot of people into thinking this team could just keep climbing and climbing. At the end of the day though, we still need another major piece or two before we can even think of having a core that can compete for a title in this league (why a bunch of us have been saying how critical it is to add Melo whether through trade or FA).

"This is a very cautious situation that we're in. You have to be conservative in terms of using your assets and using them wisely. We're building for the future." - Zeke (I guess not protecting a first round pick is being conservative)

I think it's a 45 win team IF we stay healthy and Amar'e Stoudemire plays like the best player in the league, Raymond Felton makes us forget Chris Paul and both Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler play like legit starters. The issue with the team is depth and coaching defensively. It's very difficult to ask a team to score 110-120 points every night and depend on offense to be their bread and butter. The defense still stinks. And I don't care how many blocks or steals we get. We're giving up 107 ppg. That's way too much and has to change. And we just don't have much depth, especially in the frontcourt. Ronny Turiaf is injury prone, Timofey Mozgov isn't ready to be a rotation player and Anthony Randolph is just an awful player. We need more size.
