Kobe Bryant on Denver fans booing ‘Melo: “That’s stupid”
Kurt Helin Jan 20, 2011, 6:00 PM EST 4 Comments

Carmelo Anthony dropped 35 points on the Oklahoma City Thunder, taking over the fourth quarter, in what was one of the — if not the — best wins of the season for the Nuggets Wednesday. And still fans booed him during the post game, on court interview.

Kobe Bryant doesn’t get that, as he told Chris Tomasson of FanHouse.

“That’s stupid,” star guard Kobe Bryant said in speaking with FanHouse and the Denver Post after the Lakers practiced Thursday at the Pepsi Center in preparation for Friday’s game against Denver. “That’s not very smart…”

“Put yourself in his shoes,” Bryant said. “If you’re teeter-tottering about going somewhere, he’d be more inclined to go to another place where they’re going to cheer you rather than boo you.”

It’s impossible to rule out Anthony signing an extension and staying in Denver, because in this fluid situation it’s impossible to rule anything out. The Nuggets could be stuck without a trade partner and Anthony could decide that the money potentially lost in a new Collective Bargaining Agreement outweighs his desire to go to New York.

But the waters in Denver seem poisoned. Whenever Anthony has been asked if re-signing with Denver was a possibility, he said yes — until last night. Last night he dodged the question (from Tomasson). Twice.

Who knows if the boos impacted that or not. Can’t believe it helps, though.

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Let’s just say that Bryant doesn’t agree with the people in Denver booing Anthony. Luckily for ‘Melo, he’ll have someone to share the boos with during tonight’s game. From the Post: “What about Denver-born, Denver-raised fans – if your favorite player doesn’t want to be on your team anymore … Kobe: ‘Oh please. Don’t give me that (expletive). My first game back when I demanded a trade, they booed the first game and didn’t boo the rest of the way.’ Why did they stop? Kobe: ‘Fans understood that I was going to play hard and compete every single night. They expressed their feelings in the first game and didn’t hear it again.’ When Melo makes shots, they don’t boo, but when he misses, they sometimes boo. Kobe: ‘That’s (expletive). Either you ride with him or you don’t.’ And last night, he scored 35 points and they booed him in the postgame interview (on the court). Kobe: ‘That’s stupid.’”

they'll have plenty of time to boo Melo over the next 5 years when he's wearing a Knicks uniform

Denver looks like a team that could go far in the playoffs if they could Melo.

i agree... they're a very, very good team... this is the same team that is coming off back to back 50+ win seasons... right now they're a better team than the Knicks by far.

I think Kobe might be a bit biased against the city of Denver...

Best part of that interview was right here:

"How good is he now?'' Bryant said. "He's ridiculous. He can do everything. I don't think people here really understand what he's fully capable of. He's a problem.''

My favorite tidbit from Kobe's remarks are:
The situation reminded Bryant of a difficult time in his own career, when in May 2007, he demanded to be traded because the Lakers were not focused on building a winning team.

"In my situation, we weren't spending the money to get players [to the Lakers]," Bryant said. "They had me playing around with Smush Parker. So until they decided that they wanted to make the necessary sacrifice financially and give me a team that was going to be competitive, then I didn't want to be here. It was as simple as that.

Did he really have to throw Smush Parker under the bus like that? ALso, u'd think he would want to be a little more respectful of a place where he narrowly escaped a rape/sodomy charge.

Kobe hasn't gotten the memo that Carmelo can't help teams get better

Let's just develop the young guys, and they'll be ready once Amar'e is past his prime.

Smush Parker in NBA 2K8 was a beast.

Smush Parker in NBA 2K8 was a beast.

My wife used to be Smush's teen counselor back at the Chelsea Y Teen Center when he was younger. Figured he'd be a lock for the NBA.

We need a defensive big (that can play more than 2-3games in a row -Sorry Ronny) and a proper 2guard.

on another not...what do you guys think of O face looking to come back after he gets brought out

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt
