If any franchise should have learned a life lesson in the folly of the quick fix it is our beloved New York Knicks. From the pursuit of Bob McAdoo to the trading away of Mark Jackson, the Knicks have learned the hard way that one bad deal can slice take years off the timeline of progress.

These are not trading cards. These are people who do well, like most people, with stability. If every day is punctuated with the next best rumor or the next best replacement, how does player loyalty ever takes root?

In the words of Wilson Chandler, "I don't want to go to Denver."

Thank god Isiah not's in charge then; In Donnie We Trust.
The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

I agree with you Earl. The press is discussing trades daily, but I don't think Walsh will do anything stupid. I think this is a media issue.
I just hope that people will like me

Donnie had his Plan B and it was GOOD! This is what happens when you stick to your guns and your guts. Mike and the players are 100% in synch right now and I think it can take this team pretty far. I don't think we're behind any of the teams in the East except the Heat and C's when healthy. I think we can compete with everyone else. The next move has to be CAREFULLY weighed and not rushed into. I trust that Donnie will do what is right for the franchise. If that means a deal for Melo, then i'd expect it to be a reasonable deal. We're not in any kind of desperate situation anymore. This is a winning team, with youth and upside even if we didn't change a thing. But we know some improvements will be made either now or after the season. We're in a GREAT situation!

The one thing we have to our advantage is that Melo and Amare are friends, and Donni probably has a good idea of what Melo is thinking. (Similar to Riley knowing what Bosh and Lebron were thinking.) That knowledge doesn't determine where Melo ultimately goes, but it could play into how much we're willing to pony up to get him. IOW, if it's Knicks or nothing we wont bid against ourselves.

I think Nix is absolutely right. Walsh is waiting to let the Melo situation play out. If it doesn't go the Knicks way he will go with plan b. His plan b this summer turned out to be amazing.

One more thing.

The fervor that is generated by the media does no favors to Donnie Walsh. The rumors from the omnipresent "un-named sources" only serve one purpose, to sell papers.

Tampering is a punishable offense. The thought of losing All Star forward Lonnie Shelton in his prime (for tampering with George McGinnis) still stings. That sloppy move set the Knicks back at least five years. The trade of Rod Strickland was premature. The Knicks backcourt never had the same talent for nearly a decade.

Landry Fields was 6-6 from the floor against Phoenix. What more could anyone ask from a rookie?

At the very least I want the Knicks to try their best with reason to go out and get another big man for this year. The players fans etc.. deserve to go into the playoffs with the best team possible. If there is a small deal to be made--I hope they try to do it. If a deal makes too much sense not to make--then who cares bout cap space. Not interested in trading any core player. i.e Amare Gallo Chandler Fields felton

Trading for a C and a guard to bolster the bench using spare parts will not do anything to disturb team harmony.

Trading Gallo for a legit starting C along with say AR, Curry and Walker for a backup PF/C and a scorer of the bench and maybe a backup PG does not ruin team harmony either.

A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Melo did say he doesn't think the Nuggets will trade him anywhere he doesn't wanna go when asked about it before the last Knicks-Denver game... that sorta tells u he's confident about his situation & isn't gonna cave... he'll either get traded to the Knicks or he'll wait til free agency to sign with us... i agree, DW isn't gonna bid against himself & gut our team to get Melo when he probably knows Melo's his either way... he's gonna wait things out & see how things play.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

I agree, it's absolutely not worth tearing apart the team. If we can get a discount on Melo, then I'm fine with it. Otherwise, we can't overpay, as we're not going to have any easy way to fill in for some of the pieces we trade away.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Why would you consider trading for Melo, a 26 year old superstar just entering his prime, a quick fix? Obviously no one wants to blow up the team to get him, but the idea of people not wanting him at all because it messes with this current team's youth and development absolutely baffles me. We have some good young piece, but none of which has Melo's upside. It's been too long since we have had superstars on this team. When we have one and the opportunity to get another, suddenly that doesn't interest people. I have no idea why.

That would be the dream scenario. If Melo is adamant that he is going to the Knicks and is willing to risk FA to make it happen, the Nuggets will cave by the trade deadline. I still think we are going to have to trade Chandler to get a deal done, but IMO if the deal is Curry, Chandler, and a future pick or two, then we make out like bandits. I wish there was a way to keep Chandler, but he is going to command a $9-$10 mill salary and I don't think we can squeeze both him and Melo under the cap this year unless we get rid of Gallo and TD. I guess Walsh could really play hard ball and offer only Gallo, TD, Curry, and a draft pick and cash. Either way, as long as we don't have to give up both Gallo and Chandler, then I think we come out ahead.

Trust the Process

Its his cost and position versus others. We lead the NBA in scoring by a +2 margin. We dont need more scoring--we need a big man who can provide some defense interior scoring when amare is out and able to play with amare at times--we need a large turiaf upgrade.
