I know some of you think of Nets as "Clippers" to our knicks.

Second rate oprhan team, no fan base even when they were winning.

Melo "would never go to that crap".

Guys, the Russian got plans. I think the Russian would over pay for Melo and is desporate to have a starphuch face for the franchise.

The Russian has plans.

NOt to be top team in NY. His sights are to be the "it" NBA team in Europe for a new generation. Not just the next three years of Amares contract, not just to win over Brooklyn, but EUROPE. And That includes RUSSIA!

Build the product. Build the Name. Get a face.

You think MSG has a big audiance? What about Moscow? what about RUSSIA!

Pro league in russia is in shambles right now. Nets could fill a huge void.

Think cable subscriptions with his political clout? Huge potential.

In ten years there will be NBA in EUrope and this guy being an NBA owner gets the Moscow franchise if he wants it. WOuld have to sell his stake in Nets, but thats another time and place. The value of nets would skyrocket.

NYC in its borders also has 500,000 russian speaking citizens. Thats like the size of Oklahoma City. That his small base to start with.

Knick fans don't have to root for them or even like them. But you should respect them. Not for the last 20 years, but for what they will do in the next 10. Respect the business model.

This dude is thinking bigger than what most knick fans are thinking. If he wants to overpay for Melo, thats his business.

Walsh should do whats good for knicks. HE should not get into a bidding war over this. Set his price for whats good for knicks then move on to next plan. If he bids up what nets do thats ok too! We only know what we read anyway.

PS: Nalod, Mrs. Nalod and the little Nalodians are heading to skiing were there is no cell or internet.
So Happy Merry Christmas to all use and hope all your dreams and wishes come true. May the haters hate, the lovers love and starphuchers get their little starphuch wishes!

"Mr. Prokhorov, any comments on your recent acquisition of Carmelo Anthony?"

When the hell did Russia become a part of Europe? Was there some kind of massive landmass shift overnight that I'm not aware of? Russia is by quite some distance closer to being a part of the US then it is to being a part of Europe.

No wonder Miss Carolina was a representative of the US. Sheesh.

Not really sure if youre trying to suggest that Russia is in fact a part of Europe as some kind of "we are America and everywhere else is Europe. Or China. Or Puerto Rico. Whatever." kind of shtick of if youre just being wrong.

The distance between Alaska (an American state under US constitution) and Russia is 55 miles ( or actually 3 miles if your being pedantic). Between Russia and Europe, we have various contries including Belarus and Ukraine. Admittedly, they are a part of the same landmass, but to say that equates to Russia being a part of Europe is like saying Guatamala is part of the US because you share a landmass.

Double-sheesh. Hasheesh.

For the longest time the URALs have been the landmark the delineate between Europe and Asia as clearly shown in that map. May be you need to get of the hashish. Europe is not defined by the European Union.

Seriously, you are arguing this?

I'll help you. The whole Russian federation consists of a land mass that spans Europe and Asia.

One country over two continents. Alaska would be three.

Russias biggest part by size is in Asia but most population located in European part which is left from Ural mountaines.
Moscov, Sankt Petersburg, and other biggest cities are in Europe. Asian portion is Siberian forests, North Canada-like ice deserts and a bit of cities near China border.

Firefly cut geography class and smoked hash.

The smugness by which you tried to call me out is great stuff.

I traveled to soviet union in college. Stayed west of Urals. Stayed in Europe.

This post needs to become my sig... best geography fail ever. "Miss Carolina"?

As the others have stated:
Russia is not part of the European Union, not part of the European Economic Community, not part of NATO, but geographically and culturally a part of Eastern Europe along with Belarus, Ukraine, and the Baltics. Russian national sport teams are considered part of Europe (FIBA Europe, UEFA in FIFA). There is "European Russia" and there is "Asian Russia."

Just to bake your noodle even more: Denmark is another two continent nation, as Greenland is a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark (part of Europe) but is geographically part of North America. Did I just blow your mind?
